Heatwave Expected for Southern California This Week

A significant heatwave is expected to hit Southern California Tuesday through the rest of the week.

Temperatures in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties are expected to be at least 80 degrees along the coast and as high as 90 inland on Wednesday and steadily increasing through the weekend. 

Ventura, Los Angeles, and Orange counties will have above average temperatures with a high of 84 reaching 88 degrees later this week. The valleys and Inland Empire will be sunny with a high of 96 degrees. Temperatures will be as high as a scorching 105 for Friday and Saturday.

The National Weather Service reports an “Excessive Heat Watch” will be in effect from Thursday through Sunday for the mountains and interior valleys of Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties. Although the coasts are expected to be much cooler.

For the City of Santa Barbara, NWS predicts minor to moderate heat levels (75 – 85F) now through Sunday, with Friday to Sunday being the warmest. Sundowner winds are possible both Thursday and Friday nights and the heat will most likely continue into next week.
