With the winter season coming up, the City of Goleta is pleased to share that the repair project for a small portion of the San Jose Creek Channel was successfully completed last week. The completion of this project represents an important milestone in restoring the damaged portion of the San Jose Creek. The repaired portion of the channel is now ready to accommodate winter storm creek flows.

City of Goleta Public Works Director Charlie Ebeling said, “Public Works staff did a great job ensuring the repairs were completed prior this year’s rainy season. The repairs were also important to complete prior to the upcoming project to extend channel improvements to Hollister Avenue. The channel improvements extension will be part of the Hollister Avenue/San Jose Creek roadway bridge replacement project that is scheduled to begin in 2021.”

The San Jose Creek Emergency Channel Repair Project, which started construction in September 2020, replaced a portion of the existing channel floor that was damaged in winter storms in 2017 and was temporarily repaired at the end of 2017. The repair project, performed by James C. Cushman Inc. out of Santa Barbara, resulted in a permanent repair with the installation of new articulated concrete mats onto the channel floor consistent with the original channel replacement and fish-passage project completed in 2014.

The project resulted in minimal impact to the community since the work occurred within the San Jose Creek Channel.

Because someone would be irate if they didn't know what was happening. People need to know everything even if its not their business.

It is a terrible shame and a shameful waste that the Coty of Goleta spent a dime putting bricks into a creek. Something has gone terribly wrong in this community that the elected officials are lashing out at the homeless like this. The money that was wasted on this project could have gone to fix the overpass intersection at Fairview on the Northbound side. Instead we spent millions on dirt and brick to shove in a creek. This is systemic fraud and I am reporting the City of Goleta to the FBI. As a lifelong resident of this community I have witness a shameful slide into mediocrity and false governance. I for one am fed up with all the deliberate waste I have seen of community funds. Real oversight needs to be exercised, because this is completely backwards and totally illegal.

And to top it all off, they have destroyed the creek as an environment. I demand justice, heads will roll, and I will not be satisfied until there is accountability and someone is fired or charged with serious crimes. You have not heard the last of this HERS Rater...

I like the way the bricks let water get absorbed before all goes to sea.

And the speed bump at the curve to slow the water going too fast.

but the clump of tree hanging down and the dirt pile seems like a work
in progress?
