Fatal Vehicle Collision on Highway 166

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene of a vehicle collision on Highway 166 near New Cuyama Sunday afternoon.

At 4:29 p.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the scene near Hubbard Ave with a Calstar helicopter. Upon arrival, they found a head-on collision between a Honda sedan and an oil tanker.

In the sedan, a male and a female both in their 40’s, were pronounced dead at the scene. The female was ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the oil tanker sustained major injuries and was flown to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital via Calstar helicopter. 

Highway 166 was closed in both directions as California Highway Patrol investigated the incident.
