Fatal Traffic Collision Off Highway 166

One person has died in a vehicle crash off Highway 166 on Monday morning.

Ay 8:14 a.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters, Santa Maria Fire, County Search and Rescue, and US Forest Service responded to the area just west of Rock Front Ranch and discovered a pickup truck had crasedh approximately 300 feet over the side of the roadway.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Santa Barbara County Search & Rescue was the first responding agency and conducted the recovery of the decedent via a rope system while assisting the tow company with the extraction of the vehicle. 

The identity of the victim has yet to be released.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.

A vehicle crashed over the side of Highway 166 west of Rock Front Ranch this Monday morning.

It happened around 8:15 a.m. Appears to be a silver pickup or SUV that crashed about 300 feet at a bend in the road. No other vehicles appear to be involved.

Heard over the scanner there was a single occupant that is deceased.

Crews are still on the scene recovering the vehicle.
