Fall Exploration

By Pat Fish
Fall is an excellent time to go exploring in the mountains on a mule. This was taken on the Yellowjacket Ranch east of Arroyo Grande.

Nov 10, 2017 05:26 PMYou sure picked the right mode of transportation for an enjoyable trip. "The best view in the world is between the ears of a horse or mule." Thanks for the photo

Nov 11, 2017 08:25 PMVery Cool! I rode that ranch more than once when the owner (maybe I shouldn't mention his name?) hosted endurance rides sanctioned by AERC. It was called the Tar Springs Ride. There were 25 and 50 mile competitions. Completely enjoyable, well run rides. Beautiful trails. Wonderful people.
On the last hosted ride, I was several hours behind the next to last rider. They were about to send out a search party. I had stopped to help an injured rider. After that rider was properly taken care of by emergency personnel, I rode on, wanting to complete the ride. For my help, I was honored with the day's Don Evenson Award. He (Don) was known as a tireless advocate and helper of all who rode the trails.
They stopped doing the Tar Springs because access to some trails was blocked and the ride was a lot of work for the hosts.
PS Flicka, you & I have talked in the past about Winks.
