Coroner Releases Identity of Man Found in Santa Barbara Harbor Near Sailboat

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff Coroner’s Bureau has released the identity of the man found overboard in the Santa Barbara Harbor on Sunday, November 26, 2023.

The decedent is as 50-year-old Jimmy Price from Daly City, Ca.

Around 1:30 a.m., Captains aboard the TowBoatUS Assist Ventura were responding to an unrelated call for service off the Santa Barbara coast when they noticed a sailboat with its lights on and sails up without anyone at the helm near Leadbetter Beach.

“Captains utilized horns, yelling, and VHF ch16 to attempt to make contact with anyone on board to no avail,” according to TowBoatUS.

The Coast Guard was notified of a potential overboard as one of the TowBoatUS Captains jumped onboard the sailboat and to confirm the vessel was unoccupied.

“The Assist Ventura immediately began search patterns while waiting for additional resources,” according to TowBoatUS.

Nearly two and a half hours into the search, the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol Officers located the body of a male in the water off the Santa Barbara coast.

Additional details surrounding this incident have yet to be released.
