Who would have thought that a picture of a derelict barn, trash pile and junk would morph into discourses on the evil weed and supposed virtues of the valley views. Someone fails to keep his farm in order and the city folk go off on what a great photograph it makes. Sheesh!
I used to love riding on Santa Rosa Road- Now there must be 10,000 acres of Pot Hoop Houses and everything that goes with it- Tons of vehicles from workers and the Stench of POT... It's really too bad these growers didn't grow somewhere like off 166
It's true. We were eating lunch in Buellton last week, and as soon as we stepped outside we were hit with the very strong smell of pot. It's like what garlic does to the air in Gilroy.
You should have seen the Santa Ynez Valley 60 and more years ago when it was a true rural, ranching paradise; before all the "ranchettes" were developed.
What a great photo. Thanks for sharing. We have to photograph this area while we can before it is completely destroyed by reflecting hoop houses. You can see some in the background of your photo.
I was going to complain about the hoop houses comment and it having nothing to do with the topic but I think I can see some in the background of the photo, oh my.
The ability to complain if they wish is what makes EdHat great. It's pretty much unfiltered up to a point and that allows this to be a nice forum if you wish to just observe or jump into the mix for a piece of your mind. Thanks, Ed.
The darn hoop houses have ruined the viewscapes all over the county. I do feel though that probably sooner than later the cannabis farmers are going to realize the price for their weed had dropped to the point that it's no longer a viable means to "get rich." It seems everybody & his brother is getting into the business. Another point is that many of those hoop houses are growing illegal weed and they will eventually be destroyed, the crop eradicated & owners fined heavily vs having gone the legal route at the start. They are certainly a visual blight.
The central coast this time of year has a special beauty unique to an area known for both agriculture and forested lands., both shown in this gorgeous photo.
