On Sunday, November 24, 2019, at approximately 5:42 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputies along with fire and medics were dispatched to the area of Avenue of the Flags and Highway 246 for a report of a hit-and-run traffic collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, deputies found the pedestrian victim in the road with serious injuries and confirmed the suspect vehicle, later identified as a gray Chevrolet Silverado, had left the scene. A witness followed the Silverado towards Lompoc and provided Sheriff’s Dispatch with a vehicle description and license plate number before they lost sight of the vehicle in the Lompoc area.

Sheriff’s Deputies from the Santa Maria substation were listening to the call and staged in the area of the home address for the registered owner of the Silverado in the City of Santa Maria. At approximately 7:17 p.m. the suspect, 26-year-old Luis Alberto Ledesma, arrived at the address in the Silverado and was ultimately arrested. The Silverado was impounded and Ledesma was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail for felony hit-and-run and two counts of felony DUI with a bail of $100,000.

The victim was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. The victim’s identity and condition are not available for release at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Response Team responded to the scene and is investigating this incident. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to call Deputy DeLeon at (805)961-7519.

That witness deserves a big fat juicy reward of some type. I really admire people who get involved and help catch the bad guys.

Used to be if a drunk had an accident it would be reported as "fell asleep at the wheel." It was when "Mothers Against Drunk Driving" (MADD) got up in arms about having their children killed by a drunk driver that laws changed. They lobbied long and hard to change laws, making them good and strong, and expensive. Although we still get drunks driving I think many sensible people who have been drinking find alternative transportation. The repeat offenders are merely pretty dumb.

10:51, can you read? The story above and other news media reported that the suspect was arrested for a felony hit-and-run and two counts of felony DUI. The actual evidence is the reports by the witnesses, Sheriff's Deputies, CHP Officers, and the blood sample taken at the jail.

‘1:15 PM’ ... Currently DUI means ‘driving under the influence’ of alcohol, not usually drugs. From what I have read and seen they use the term ‘impaired’ for drug use. A blood ‘level’ for the ‘legal’ use of drugs while driving and/or other tests for drugs is still being discussed and an easy way to test has not yet been determined.

"10:51, can you read?"..................DUI means "drunk?" I think DUI means "driving or operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol OR OR OR OR OR OR [seal barks] other drugs, to a level that renders the driver incapable of operating a motor vehicle safely."

Regardless of one's condition re: ingested substances, the person he hit had serious injuries. A normal person would've stopped to possibly save his life (Perhaps around a corner so he could lie about hitting the guy) or called 911 at the very least. This guy is over the age when brains finish developing social judgment. He's on the sociopath spectrum and should be watched carefully his whole life. When push comes to shove, he'll always be a danger to others.

That's a scary thought. Just a week or so before this happened I went on a test drive with him at the auto dealership he works for. He seemed like a nice young man at first but after a while I started to get weird vibes from him. Yikes.

Where is the evidence that this driver was "drunk"? Or is this observation just a general view of social behaviors?

It's crazy people can't seem to get it through their heads it is not a good idea to drive drunk. However, one drink close to your driving time is still doing a DUI. Time was, at parties and in bars people (often the bartender) would say, "Have one more for the road."

Flicka, I remember commercials with white-coated "doctors" advocating smoking being good for you! How times have changed--occasionally even for the better as hard as that is to believe sometimes if you read/watch media presentations.
