Brush Fire Contained Near New Cuyama

Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to a brush fire near New Cuyama on Monday morning.

At 9:04 a.m., crews arrived in the area of School House Canyon and Highway 166 and discovered a fire burning light to medium fuel moving at a slow rate of spread. The now named “School Fire” was burning on the Santa Lucia Ranger District, 8 miles west of New Cuyama.

Crews were able to stop the forward progress and all air resources were released. Ground crews will continue to control lines on the scene.

There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation.

The total acreage has been updated to be 4.5 acres.
