A misprint earlier this month stated that there was only one Scout Troop left selling Christmas trees in the area. There are actually TWO Troops!

Boy Scout Troop 37 has a Christmas Tree lot NOW OPEN in the CVS parking lot at 5875 Calle Real, Goleta, located near Trader Joe's. If you live closer to the Goleta area, please come and support our Troop!

Normal operating hours are Saturday-Sunday 9am-9pm, and Monday-Friday 3-9pm.

We are a scout-led troop, often found riding bikes, hiking our local trails, doing trail maintenance and other service projects (often for our Charter Organization - the Santa Barbara Elks Lodge), camping and backpacking, building and launching model rockets, and supporting our older scouts on their Eagle projects. We welcome all boys ages 11+ and their families to join us on our scouting adventures! COVID has kept us from meeting regularly in-person, but we do try to get outdoors regularly in small groups to keep us going.

Please email with any questions - [email protected]

Or find us on Facebook - "Goleta Scout Troop 37 Christmas Trees".

Is BSA 37 sponsored by the Elks the former Troop 3 that met at a building on/close to Harding School? Troop 3 had also been sponsored by the Elks.

Troop 37 has been around for about 50 years, and in Goleta for as long as I know. We are beyond grateful to the Elks as generous supporters of the scouting program throughout the area.

I'm told, Troop 3, around in the 60's, was led by Ray Byers, Carden Silva, Glen Self, George Owens, Waldo Abbott and a couple other men whose names my friend can't remember. At the time the Elks Lodge was located on E. Carrillo Street.

This is a great way to support the scouts. Funds raised from this event will help send scouts on outings that help them mature in many ways. My son is in a different troop, and we appreciate the community support for our fundraising efforts. COVID has made it hard, but the scouts are creative and resilient.

Too bad the Boy Scouts as an organization don't have their act together. They've really blown it, sorta like the Catholic Church. Denying the existence of their many pedophiles and abuse of boys over decades. Decades. Yes, the original concept is/was great, but look at their record. Hard to support them.

I’m sorry to hear that you aren’t aware of all the changes that Scouts BSA have made in recent years to ensure the safety of our youth. One major piece is the annual Youth Protection Training (YPT) that all adult members are required to take. As a volunteer with AYSO and Girl Scouts as well, I haven’t seen anything even remotely close to the same level of safety requirements for adults in either of those programs.
Please feel free to reach out to us if you’d like to have a conversation about the incredible experiences that our local scouts are having these days (such as community service, hiking, backpacking, citizenship, etc), as well as what Scouts BSA is currently working on to help those who experienced abuse in years past. ROCQUEFAM: you are spot on. I am an adult volunteer with my son’s troop, and the Youth Protection Training is second to none. Scouting is an exceptional way for boys to gain lifelong skills and confidence. I was never in scouts, but I am thankful and proud of how scouting is shaping the life of my son. I’m convinced that we would have fewer social problems if more boys were in scouts, especially the ones who have absentee fathers.
