At approximately 10:00 am this morning a community member notified personnel at Carpinteria city hall of a suspicious device they observed off the intersection at Carpinteria Avenue and Ballard. The intersection was closed and traffic was rerouted while the Sheriff’s Bomb Squad investigated the device.
During the investigation a community member reported seeing a piece of electrical equipment fall off a work truck yesterday and that they had moved it off the roadway. The bomb squad robot was used to determine the device was indeed a piece of electrical equipment and not an explosive device.
The area is safe. Thanks to our Bomb Squad for being available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

wait no complaining about the fact that this probably cost us $50,000 to investigate? when all it was, was a transformer? everyone yells when hikers are rescued saying “we pay for this you know….” but no one complains about this?
They didn’t know it fell off a truck when called out and while investigating. A neighbor called and reported she/he had seen it fall off and moved it out of the road. The shape and with wires exposed, it well could have been a bomb. Looks similar to the ones mailed by the crazy Trump supporting maniac recently. Where does the 50k price come from? Made up from whole cloth?
