My wife and I fly from SB to McKinleyville 3-4 times a year, and the commercial rates are more than $1000 a piece. We were just wondering about the availability of hiring a private plane/pilot for those trips. Is that possible? Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!

My company Santa Barbara Aviation can do this. SBA to KCEC on a Citation CJ (Light Jet) is 1:45 flight time. $8400 plus tax. Can take 6 Passengers. No membership required.

It looks like 442 nautical miles - about 1.5 hours in a light jet or 2 hours in a turboprop. Assuming you are not making a same day return, I would estimate on the very low side around $15,000 and close to $20,000 roundtrip. You can buy a jet card which gives you a fixed hourly rate and guarantees availability so you could book 10 to 72 hours before you travel. You can check out my website for more information and email me with questions if you want - https://privatejetcardcomparisons.com/

Advise from a Travel Agent. It would no way be cheaper to charter a jet. United SBA-SFO-Eureka/Arcata(ACV) round-trip 462.50 per person travel in the month of April. Ticket is non-refundable, must spend a Saturday night.

I would think it's possible but if you're concerned about $1000 a piece then brace yourself - private flights are way, way higher than that. Seems like your trip is pricey b/c I bet you have to do alot of airport jumps b/c you are flying in/out of fairly small airports with no nonstop. You might want to consider flying out of Burbank, checking connections and maybe doing some driving for parts of the trip instead (or car/bus service) those methods always yield lower prices (but they are more cumbersome and time consuming)

Try ACI Jet. There’s an office in upper village Montecito or you can price flights on their web site, probably around $30,000.

Private jets start at $5000 an hour + airport charges and the cost of the leg to get the plane back to where it came from... If you want to buy into Netjets or another similar service you can expect to pony up 100k+ just to buy into the club, then you pay for the actual flight. There are a number of startups / apps that play in this space - where you can hope to grab a seat on a flight that is already heading that way, but they're not necessarily cheap either. Check on those, you can find them with a little google searching. Nothing about private flights is cheap.

That estimate is a bit high in my opinion, but regardless there is no way it's happening for less than $2000 round trip, not even close.

Have you considered flying to Crescent City via Oakland on Coutour? Those flights are $300-350 round trip.
