Construction activities on the Mission Canyon Road Repair Project are slated to begin the week of September 21 and continue through the fall. SCE anticipates completion of work by the end of fall 2020.

Trail closures are necessary in the immediate area beginning September 21 through the end of fall due to the nature of the work, including the use of heavy equipment, and the need to complete the work ahead of seasonal rains.

We recognize the importance of the trails for residents and visitors and understand the inconvenience that these closures may cause. Safety is our top priority. These temporary closures will allow for this work to be completed safely and efficiently so that the area can be reopened to hikers and visitors in a timely manner. We thank the public for their patience for this needed repair work.

A continuous closure is planned for the affected trail areas from September 21 – October 30, with active construction activities taking place Monday - Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Starting October 31, the trail will be open for recreational access most weekends and holidays (open from Saturday morning to Sunday evening). Construction activities will continue Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Additional information related to progress on the project, timelines and closures can be found at www.sce.com/MissionCanyon and on the Mission Canyon SCE information line at (805) 244-0095.

I saw that SCE was starting work in the Tunnel Rd. area yesterday and trails accessed there will be closed for a while, so I went to Jesusita trailhead on San Roque Rd where there was a sign saying "Trail Closed due to SCE Construction". This is nowhere near Tunnel Rd. I abided by the sign and drove over to Rattlesnake trailhead, which also had the same damn sign up! Trying to get an explanation from SCE as to why the trails east and west of Tunnel are being closed....

Los Padres Forest is closed until 9/25. Those trails are within the Los Padres Forest area and thus closed to the public

however, cabomark, those signs state the closure is due to "SCE Construction" -- so what happens after the 25th when supposedly Los Padres reopens and also frontcountry trails? Hmmm. Rattlesnake Cyn is not near Tunnel Tr.

Look at the closure map, all three of those trails are connector trails that will be closed at the impacted areas.

1) The Los Padres Forest will most likely remain closed until at least October 1 (more information coming soon).

2) This includes all portions of the County and City trails that access the Los Padres (yes, that means Jesusita, Tunnel and Rattlesnake are all currently closed too).

3) The SCE closure of Tunnel Trail is specifically from the Tunnel TH up to Seven Falls and including all the Edison Roads accessed from Tunnel TH (see the closure maps posted at the trailheads).

4) SCE has posted closure signs and maps along the Jesusita, Tunnel and Rattlesnake Trails as those are all commonly used trails that access the closure area and SCE doesn't want people to hike in from one trailhead expecting to exit at Tunnel.

5) When (if?) the LP Forest reopens, the trails outside the SCE Tunnel closure listed above will be open for people to enjoy.

6) Sorry, the only trail exercise we'll be getting this week is exercising patience.
