Floppy Disk Reader

By an edhat reader

Anyone have a reader for 5-1/4" floppy disks? These are the ones that are truly floppy, not the rigid 3-1/2" type. Not even sure if there is anything on them, but if there is, it's important. That's the easy one: also have half a dozen 3M PD650 optical disk cartridges which need the data saved off. Again, don't know how much is on them, but it would all fit easily on a thumb drive or even a DVD disk. These are similar to a re-writable CD, but contained within a cartridge which requires a special drive.

Where can I have these read?

You can buy a USB floppy on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/External-Floppy-Portable-Windows-Required/dp/B00RXEWOAA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1510707028&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+floppy&dpID=41Fc4s0a%252BnL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

If you are using Win 8 or a later computer (Win 10) you may run into problems with the BIOS not being able to properly read an external USB floppy drive. (Most drivers are written around older hardware) I needed data transferred and used floppydisk[dot]com in Orange County; for small qty runs about $5.00 per disk.

Trying asking at the Geek Squad at Best Buy. If they don't do it, they may know who does.
