Source: Santa Barbara Police Department
Today, the City of Santa Barbara Public Safety Departments, Police and Fire, were notified of a public safety professional who tested positive for COVID-19.
The public safety professional, City of Santa Barbara Police Officer #1, last worked on Thursday, March 12, 2020.
The Officer is quarantined and recovering out-of-county, at their personal residence.
The City of Santa Barbara Public Safety Departments began extensive COVID-19 mitigation measures starting in early March. As such, Officer #1 was already isolated at home when they began to feel sick.
Extensive cleaning, social distancing and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), are being practiced at both the Fire Department and Police Department.
In addition to Police Officer #1, two other Police Officers were tested; Police Officer #2 tested negative and Police Officer #3’s testing results are still pending.
No City of Santa Barbara Fire Fighters have required testing at this point-in-time.
The City of Santa Barbara Police and Fire Departments are working in conjunction -- on a continuing bases with the County Public Health Department -- to provide the most up-to-date workplace safety standards.

Apr 02, 2020 07:04 PMsorry to be a tattle tale but there was an incident today at the skate park and I witnessed a group of SBPD officers talking to each other in very close proximity. My friend commented that they were not practicing social distancing... Whatever the incident was seemed to have already wrapped up and they appeared to be just chatting, In a group, with less than 2 feet of space between each of them.

Apr 02, 2020 10:31 PMDid you go up to them and ask them why they weren’t six feet apart? If not, then why post here?

Apr 03, 2020 09:20 AMI hope you and your friend were social distancing too. I sure miss going out and hanging out with my friends but it's too risky right now.

Apr 03, 2020 12:48 PMLina: Our plan was to stay away from each other but on the same bike path LOL We had a nice ride and stayed away from others (completely within the current recommended guidelines) I won't bother replying to the drama queens looking for an argument

Apr 02, 2020 08:53 PMBy way of reply to: APR 02, 2020 07:04 PM----------I don't think you're tattling. Shame on those officers for acting so irresponsibly. What you have posted only serves to further illustrate the ongoing troublesome, idiotic and decidedly pigheaded manner in which some people choose to deny the virulence of the Sars-CoV2 virus. It is not only younger persons, but people of all age groups and walks of life who remain in denial. I just got off the phone with my scoffing, highly skeptical octagenarian friend. He remains incredulous that my family and I are vigilantly and determinedly taking every precaution to protect ourselves from coming into contact with this virus. He continues to go about his business------- going into stores, going to the Post Office, allowing visitors into his home. As far as I know, he doesn't use sanitizer at all. I truly fear for him. *** Physical distancing is, by far, one of the wisest things any of us can practice right now.*** Wash your hands and sanitize your hands if you need to go out and when you come home. Don't "get together" with anyone outside your family. Wave and smile at people from afar. Don't think you're special. Don't think you're immune. Don't add to the problem by being silly about this pandemic.

Apr 03, 2020 12:19 PMI'm glad to hear the the cop who tested positive is not to seriously ill. These folks are interacting with many people throughout the day and putting themselves in great vulnerability in the line of duty. Keep in mind that in crisis times crime rates tend to increase so we need our officers healthy and strong in order to best serve our community.
Keeping our front liners in my hopes and prayers ~ cops, fire, health care provider, domestic workers, farm workers, garbage collectors, grocery workers, truckers, hotel workers, and anyone else I missed.
