A male body was discovered off the coast of Carpinteria on Wednesday afternoon, reports John Palminteri of KEYT News.

The body was found ‪near the oil rigs and has been identified as 61-year-old Adrian Navaro Ramirez of Buena Park. The man’s family had previously contacted the U.S. Coast Guard to report an overdue kayaker, reports Palminteri.

It’s unclear when the family contacted the Coast Guard and when the man was last seen.

The U.S. Coast Guard sent out a message early Wednesday morning strongly encouraging mariners and boaters in the Southern California region to prepare for heavy weather expected to impact the region Wednesday morning through the weekend.

“The heavy weather is expected to cause dangerous surf and rip current conditions throughout the Los Angeles and San Diego regions,” the message stated.

Los Angeles-Long Beach is expected to experience rip currents and up to 6-foot surf with the potential for 12-foot surf Wednesday evening through Thursday.
