Construction Update (weather dependent)
Timeframe:  January 20 – 26, 2019

**Due to rain, most of the construction activities from the week of January 13th have been rescheduled to the week of January 20th.**

**Please remember that Via Real is closed from Casitas Pass Road to the old northbound Highway 101 on-ramp. Local residents have one-way access to Hales Lane from Casitas Pass Road along Via Real. Exiting Hales Lane is right-turn only on Via Real to Vallecito Road. Pedestrians can use the sidewalk on Via Real, but please refrain from entering the construction area.**

Closures

  • Tuesday and Wednesday (as needed)
    • The Highway 101 southbound off-ramp at Casitas Pass Road will have temporary closures from 5:00 am to 3:00 pm to allow for a concrete pour at the overcrossing. Please use off-ramps at either Linden or Bailard Avenues as alternate routes.
  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday
    • The Highway 101 southbound off-ramp at Casitas Pass Road will be closed from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for drainage work. Please use off-ramps at either Linden or Bailard Avenues as alternate routes.

Casitas Pass Road

  • Overcrossing
    • Crews will continue work on the underside (soffit) and internal supports (stems) for the next section of the overcrossing. Nighttime weather temperatures necessitate daytime work for a concrete pour. A longer closure of the southbound off-ramp at Casitas Pass Road is scheduled for the concrete pour (see above).

Linden Avenue Overcrossing

  • Crews will continue installing wood forms and pouring concrete for the side supports (abutments) for the next section of the new overcrossing. Crews will also begin setting temporary supports (falsework) for the center supports (bents).

Highway 101

  • Sound walls
    • Northbound Highway 101 between Linden Avenue and Franklin Creek (behind Nipomo Drive)
      • Crews will continue drilling and installing the underground supports (piles) for the new wall.
    • Southbound Highway 101 between Linden Avenue and Casitas Pass Road
      • Crews will continue excavating and installing rebar for the wall footing.
  • Carpinteria Creek
    • Work continues on the southbound Highway 101 bridge barrier rail over Carpinteria Creek.
  • New drainage improvements are being installed at Carpinteria Creek, Via Real, Casitas Pass Road, near the new northbound on-ramp at Casitas Pass Road, and the southbound off-ramp at Casitas Pass Road.
  • Electrical work is progressing around the project to install new lighting on Via Real.
  • Retaining wall work is occurring along southbound Highway 101 south of Casitas Pass Road.

Via Real

  • Via Real is closed from Casitas Pass Road to the old northbound Highway 101 on-ramp. Local residents have one-way access to Hales Lane on Via Real (entering from Casitas Pass Road and exiting on Vallecito Road).
    • Pedestrians can use the sidewalk on Via Real, but please refrain from entering the construction area.
  • Crews will continue work on the retaining wall along Via Real between Casitas Pass Road and Hales Lane.

Upcoming Work: winter/spring

  • The Highway 101 southbound off-ramp at Casitas Pass Road will close continuously for up to 1 month. Please note this is in addition to the daytime closures listed above. Detour maps can be viewed at SBROADS.com.

  1. I some areas of the world, the dead can’t be buried until spring b/c the ground is solid and under a lot of snow. In others, the summer weather is so intense being in the sun outside will kill you. In those places, people know to plan construction accordingly. This area seems to do road-rehabs, overpasses and construction at the most questionable times possible. I’m not going to guess why redoing a mile of Cathedral Oaks should take 4 months other than maybe there’s no machinery and it’s all pick, shovel and wheelbarrow?
