No Injuries in State Street Office Fire

The Santa Barbara City Fire Department states there were no injuries in large structure fire of a State Street office building Monday morning.

Around 11:00 a.m. firefighters responded to 1815 State Street cornering Islay Street where flames were seen from the top of the building with a thick column of black smoke.

Within approximately 15 minutes, fire crews knocked down the blaze that was concentrated to the upstairs offices. There were no injuries and everyone was able to evacuate the building in time. 

The cause of the fire is unknown. We will update this article with more information as it becomes available.

  • Is there a fire near State Street and Valerio? There looks like smoke is coming from the area.

  • Lots of smoke coming from the 1800 block of State Street, fire dept is on scene

  • Large office building on fire between Pedregosa and Islay on State Street, flames seen from the top, looks like 1815 State Street.

  1. Larger than normal response due working fire in 2 story multi unit structure, Engines 1,2,3 and 5 with Truck 1 and Battalion 716 followed by Engine 7 and Hazmat. Occupants said they heard several pops, then someone yelled fire and they all ran out. Thought it came from the water heater area. One said possible asbestos in the wall was likely reason for hazmat.

  2. Normal structure fire response for a working fire- Haz Mat Unit is also the “Air” unit for recharging air bottles that the firefighters are using- They only last about 15-20 mins. If this fire was in Los Angeles County or City, there would be at least 10 engines and 2 truck companies..
