A Hazmat team responded to Eling’s Hall on UCSB’s campus early Thursday morning for a suspected chlorine leak.
At 6:06 a.m. the Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to various alarms ringing at the UC Santa Barbara campus. The incident was upgraded to a Hazmat situation after it was discovered that chlorine was leaking inside Eling’s Hall.
The building was evacuated as the Hazmat team arrived and firefighters attempted to reset the alarm.
Firefighters wearing fully encapsulated Level-A protective suits, made entry into Elings Hall. They shut off chlorine tanks in a laboratory on the third floor.
After an investigation, teams determined there were no leaks and will continue to monitor the building’s alarm sensors.
