Identity Released of Victim in Isla Vista Cliff Fall

The Coroner’s Bureau is releasing identity of the cliff fall victim in the 6600-block of Del Playa in Isla Vista on April 29, 2022.

The decedent is 25-year-old Chasen Alibrando of Santa Monica. The death appears accidental, however, final determination is pending toxicology.

April 30, 2022

Fall From Cliff Isla Vista. Last night at approximately 11:37 PM in the 6600 block of Del Playa. An approximate 18-year-old male fell from a cliff.

SBC crews attempted resuscitation but were unsuccessful. The body was taken up to a waiting ambulance. Investigation continues by Law Enforcement.

  1. It is mind blowing to me that those homes along the cliff do not have fencing requirements! This boy was 18 they think, so young. Fencing, and maybe suicide netting below, of that’s even possible, should be legally required. I was on a boat ride recently that went past IV and it is shocking to see homes with balconies on those cliffs. I don’t understand why the city hasn’t condemned them!

  2. UCSB needs to include a Cliff Safety Class at Freshmem and Transfer orientations.
    And have professors end Friday class with a safety briefing. Same as is done for the Kern River Swimmers.
    And post more signs in front of Apts and Businesses.
    Plus add nets like done at suicide bridges.
    With a cross to mark the old locations.
    Or maybe it was a snipe hunt gone haywire?
