  1. Thank you Edhat for that, if that’s all that was given you that’s the report. I get it.
I’m not an Uber driver or a late night pedestrian attempting to cross highway 101. I thought it was worth some clarification. That’s apparently all the County had as far as details. Still wondering why the County felt the need to call out an Uber driver. That seems off.

    • This is how emergency personnel describe situations.
      Pedestrian. Motorist. Motorcyclist. Bicyclist. etc.
Imagine if a responding officer radioed in.. There’s a guy not in a vehicle or bicycle struck by a vehicle. Much easier to say “Pedestrian struck by vehicle.” It’s clear and concise to know this person isn’t associated with any other form of transportation.

  2. The headline suggests the Uber driver was at fault for this tragedy. Why not keep it more generic – something like – Individual struck and killed by vehicle while crossing Highway 101. “…we choose not to describe information that isn’t provided.” What nonsense – you even mentioned Uber twice in the article – strange.

    • That’s a long headline and not at all how emergency responders report things.
Pedestrian – makes sense, not a bicyclist, motorcyclist, or motorist.
And how does it suggest the driver was at fault? nothing in the article states that.
If the Fire Dept is the one saying it was an uber driver, it would be the same as saying a Pedestrian struck and killed by a taxi.
And Ed was commenting on Basic insinuating the person was homeless.

  3. Having worked in this field, sometimes irrelevant information gets broadcast in the beginning to get units dispatched quicker. The callers likely first statement was “I’m an Uber driver and I just hit someone on the freeway”. And so dispatch went with what they had rather than hyper focusing on details and delaying a response. As to what Edhat put out, their job is to relay facts they have and not fill in the gaps. We can all do that on our own and we will all come to the same conclusion of “WTF was this person doing walking on the highway at 2am”

  4. Pedestrians do not cross the freeways. That is just not normal on a daily basis, and never was. Just plain stupid for anyone to go across the freeway to get to the otherside. It should be stated someone or a person in the report/article By the edhat staff.
