Re: People v. William Manuel Delgado, Case No. 1506063
District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced today that Defendant William Manuel Delgado, 43 years old, was sentenced to 31 years to life in state prison.
On January 22, 2018, Mr. Delgado pled guilty to one count of Penal Code section 187(a): Second Degree Murder. He also admitted a prior strike conviction, and admitted that he personally used a knife during the commission of the crime.
The Defendant stabbed his live-in girlfriend, Raneae Ronquillo, to death on January 7, 2017 inside their Lompoc home.
The Lompoc Police Department did an excellent job investigating the case to ensure that justice was found for the victim’s family.
722–There is no “Justice” of the sort you seem to want. That is called vengeance or revenge or just plain nasty. If we are to deter future crime and anti-social conduct it will have to be with more “Christian” behavior such as turn the cheek but educate the sinner. European society tried for hundreds of years to stop crime by increasingly punishing the accused. Death penalty was common for the least of crimes such as small theft. The Death Penalty did not bring crime down but better jobs and living conditions did. Today Europe has one of the least punitive penal systems and one of the lowest crime rates. We should try that here.
