Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Vehicle Collision on Eastside

Source: Santa Barbara Police Department
On March 30, 2022, around 4:45 pm, the Santa Barbara Combined Communications Center received a report of a serious injury traffic collision that occurred between a motorcycle and a white Lexus SUV at the intersection of Hutash Street and South Voluntario Street.
Officers, paramedics, and fire department personnel were dispatched to the scene. The motorcyclist appeared to have suffered serious injuries and was transported to Cottage Hospital Emergency Room for treatment.
Due to the seriousness of the collision, the Critical Accident Reconstruction Team responded to investigate this incident further. At this time the cause of the collision is unknown, and DUI does not seem to be a factor.
The area of Hutash Street and South Voluntario Street will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians for several hours. We ask the community to please avoid the area.
There is no further information available currently.

Apr 01, 2022 11:41 AMAnother thing drivers are oblivious to is that when a stop light is not working the intersection becomes a four way stop. I work on Santa Barbara Street and saw this one day when it was raining. So many near accidents that day. Wake up people and stop driving like you are the only one on the road!

Apr 01, 2022 10:01 AMPeople are such selfish drivers. No one uses a turn signal anymore and everyone seems to roll right through all the stop signs. Watch for motorcycles!

Mar 31, 2022 09:00 PMI spent about 10 minutes today at an intersection near an elementary school. Not one car stopped for the 'recommended' three seconds at any of the 3 stop signs. Some rolled through it, some slowed a bit, some didn't even press the brake, but NOT ONE car came to the mandated stop sign behind the crosswalks. Another parent stopped with me and said they need to hire a guard to protect the children crossing here....and this is one block away from the school. Slow down SB. STOP at stop signs and crosswalks with children/pedestrians. Parents want to have the kids walk to/fro school but the drivers in this city are absolutely reckless and make the street dangerous for children and adults. Vision Zero has zero chance in Santa Barbara. What a shame.

Apr 01, 2022 11:54 AMsame thing here, I feel almost like frogger every morning walking my daughter to peabody. its ridiculous. Your child being late does not give you the right to injure or kill someone with your car. We have had quite a few close calls.
The hiring crossing guards comment. Sure, you go do it. get yelled at by every parent under the sun who thinks their time is more important than anyone else's. let alone the pay will mean no one will do it.

Mar 31, 2022 12:28 PMThere just is not any enforcement by City Police for intersection laws. One motorcyclist was killed recently on East Canon Perdido Street by a new driver leaving the High School. I am sure she feels "really bad". And he is still "really dead".

Mar 31, 2022 10:12 AMForget the car signals.
An intersection must be clear before going thru it.
The biker hit the Lexus broadside from photo.
So car got there first.
A 4 way stop?
A case for Round-A-Bouts and helmets.

Mar 31, 2022 10:21 AMNot a 4 way stop. Hutash has a stop sign, Voluntario doesn't. Hard to tell who was on what street.
