Miss Dervla is a 6 year old Irish Wolfhound who was born in Dublin, Ireland, and emigrated at 10 weeks old. She weighs 180 pounds and stands 6 feet tall if she puts her front paws on your shoulders to greet you. Descended from an ancient race of war dogs, once used to hunt the giant Irish elk and wolves, she now spends her time guarding her home and socializing with Manx cats.

We once had a neighbor with an Irish Wolfhound. The owner let our children ride their Shetland ponies on his property, the kids were sometimes startled when the dog came up to them, he was the same size as their ponies but a gentle creature.

Have had several, and they are the most gentle breed. Loyalty is a very strong trait. Trained properly, they are the very best companion. Being a large breed, they unfortunately do not live much past 12 years. They are wonderful with children - mine use to ride them when they were 3-5 - with absolutely no complaint from dogs. Not barkers, and sleep a lot. very easy to have as house dogs. Miss mine sooooo - current property, and our age, not suited for this size dog. Bye bye Mulligan!

At first I thought we were talking dog adoption here. Now I realize you're telling us about your beloved pet. Right on. My dog is 4.2 lbs. I'd love to see these two at the beach together.
