I have asked clerks in stores what they do faced with funny money those who I have asked say they give the money back, not many call the police. I think most money gets passed in smaller stores and gas stations where the clerks don't make enough money to care. There are marking pens that stores use to tell if money is real or not I think it's pretty obvious how to tell if the money is real or not though bills are different nowadays then the old days...

Counterfeit Money at Rite Aid

A few weeks ago I was in line at Sears and the checkers refused a $100 bill as it had failed their scan. The person who offered the bill said it was from her father (!?). Amazingly the store people gave the money back to the customer who left with it. I asked the clerks afterwards if they were not supposed to hold on to the money until it was processed further by the cops. They said no one in their training had dealt with this. Is this the risk of passing phony money?
