Soaring, Funky, Dirty, Ecstatic Balkan Brass with Ismail Lumanovski and Inspector Gadje

Join UCSB’s MultiCultural Center (MCC) Friday, January 25th as we welcome Ismail Lumanovski and Inspector Gadje to the MCC Theater for an evening of Balkan Brass!

Lumanovski is recognized for being, perhaps, the first Roma clarinet player to graduate from the renowned Julliard School of Music in New York. His sound has been described as an immaculate classical control of the “fiery spirit of folk music,” and the clarinetist himself has been rightfully reviewed as a “showboat of a performer…an adventurous, modern-minded-front man.”

Inspector Gadje, a collection of 14 talented musicians (twelve brass players and two percussionists), is well-known wherever they go for their ability to turn any performance into a party. Their “driving, tight groove of low brass and drums with soaring melodies from trumpets, saxophones, and clarinet incite joy and dance from the very first downbeat.” Bring your dancing shoes, because staying seated for Inspector Gadje is a challenge no one wants to beat.

This duo is celebrated all across the nation. Apart, they delight audiences and critics alike, drawing sold out crowds from notable venues like the MGM Arena, Fox Theater, Palace of Fine Arts, The Independent and even transnational venues from The Middle East, Korea, and China. Together, they create what can only be described as magic, with music that touches the heart, stirs the soul, and moves the body.
