A large chicken distributor issued a voluntary recall due to possible Listeria contamination.

Tip Top Poultry issued a voluntary recall in September of all "cooked, hot deboned fowl meat" due to possible Listeria contamination. On Tuesday, the company expanded its recall to include additional products and retailers.

California stores affected include: Trader Joe's, Food 4 Less, and ALDI.

The original recall included ready-to-eat poultry products including frozen cooked, diced, or shredded chicken distributed by brands including Butterball, Perdue, and Sysco. It includes any products produced at their Rockmart, Georgia, facility between January 22, 2019 and September 24, 2019.

Some of the products that may be contaminated include:

  • Trader Joe's Pesto Chicken Wrap
  • Trader Joe's Field Fresh Chopped Salad with Chicken
  • Trader Joe's Chicken Pot Pie
  • Trader Joe's White Meat Chicken Salad
  • Great Value Butter Chicken Spring Rolls
  • San Luis Chicken Rice & Cheese Burrito
  • Reser's Chicken Salad
  • Country Maid Chicken Salad
  • Deli Express Chicken Salad
  • Market Sandwich Everything Bagel, Chicken Sandwich, and more

All labels can be found here.

Tip Top Poultry announced in a statement that it would be shutting down its poultry cooking line until the source of contamination has been identified and eliminated.

Consuming Listeria-contaminated food can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems, newborns, and older adults. Symptoms include fever and diarrhea, muscle aches, and headache. If you think you may have consumed contaminated chicken, contact your doctor.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service has released a full list of possibly affected retailers in their updated recall alert. Their news release urges any consumer or institutions in possession of these products not to consume or serve them.

Any chicken product that falls under the recall should be thrown away or returned to the place where it was purchased.

Chicken Recall for Potential Listeria

There have been recalls on vegetables in recent years, I think for things like E.coli . One was spinach and I think lettuce more recently, as well as others. At any rate, not just meat. We don't eat much meat (organic) and for years we were vegetarians, "no food with a face". Vegans are militant vegetarians. Just make sure you get enough protein, not hard but you have to pay attention.

That is not what a vegan is. And I know only one person who uses/types the word "vejan" and he used to post regularly here under a name.

5:47 - while I hate vegetarians and vegans (proper spelling) telling carnivores to stop eating meat, your statements are pretty ignorant and offensive. Vegetarianism and veganism are dietary preferences, NOT an eating disorder. I have several friends with serious eating disorders and for you to label veganism as an eating disorder is just insulting.

When used to refer to that choice of eating, it is ‘vegan’... those I have known who claim to eat by its rules pronounce it ‘vee-gan’. Las Vegas is a Spanish name, and pronunciation is different for a ‘Las Vegan’ (loss-vay-gan). Although, most people I know from there just say ‘I’m from Las Vegas’ actually.

Sorry, . If "vejjan" isn't the proper spelling for that eating affliction, it should be. Someone from Las Vegas would obviously be a Las Vegan (pronounced Vay-gun); hence, "vejjan" is the only way the eating disorder can be spelled. Now apologize.

Hey, Ignoramus: The word is spelled "vegan," and vegan and vegetarian are not the same thing. Try eating less meat yourself. Your colon will thank you for it.

Get with it Flicka, It's too much trouble for a simple corporation cooking up a few tons of chicken a day to test for contamination. They wait until a bunch of people get sick and the guvament identifies the source. Sometimes they get away without being blamed. Eating critters you know is safer than industrial dining.
