This photo (above) was taken from the boat (without zoom lens) on October 3, 2017 at Lake Cachuma.  Notice the little guy walking towards me, that's my husband coming down the path to the boat launch - which is where we launched.  This was the bottom of the lake - underwater. This launch was made when the dam was being built.  Up on top of the hill is the parking lot for the marina.  This was all underwater up to the top of the hill - trees are where the parking lot for the marina is.

This is looking up at the Yurts (round tents) that are available to rent.  The water is usually up to the trees on the left....parking lot for marina.  The Ranger said the lake is at 40% capacity.

But, the Park Host, who cuts off your Quarantine Cable (hooks boat to trailer so you can't take it in another lake) says he has never before seen the cement ramp that we used and he has been there 40 years.  It just recently became visible.

The narrows that you usually catch fish in were all dry with weeds growing.  Actually, there were weeds showing in the lake - had to stay in the middle.  Seemed like there should have been fish unless they let them all out to Lompoc, when they let the water out.

40% seems pretty good considering how low it went.

The worst possible thing that was done by the "water management" team was to allow AGAIN lawn watering in S.B. last March. This is criminal waste of dwindling, essential resource !

A year ago, we went for a hike in the bottom of the lake. It is nice to see that there is some water there. Hopefully, it will fill the rest of the way this winter and spill.

So nice to see some water in the lake, actually enough to boat in! I was so sad the last few years before our recent winter storms, watching the puddle dwindle more and more. Last year there were some great aerial shots from Mr Wiley depicting the levels of the lake, and a post showing the exposed old dairy farm remnants from the bottom of the lake. Let's all hope we get another winter like last one, and we fill up Cachuma even more. :)

40%? That sounds like it's almost full! Before last winter's rains, the first such we had in a looooong time, I remember the lake being down to 18%. Or was it 12%? Or am I confusing it with Congress' approval ratings?

September 10 2016 the lake was down to 7.4% of capacity. I guess the Park Host just wasn't paying attention then. http://www.keyt.com/news/local-news/lake-cachuma-down-to-7-5-percent-capacity-on-the-brink-of-becoming-deadpool/87603744

I wonder if the reader was a first timer at Lake Cachuma because it being low is not new news.
