Details Released in Fatal Chumash Casino Shooting
Once the Sheriff’s Office has completed the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office for review.
The Sheriff’s Office is releasing the name of the decedent who was fatally injured this morning, February 20, 2018, in a shooting incident behind the Chumash Casino Resort in the 3400 block of E. Highway 246 in Santa Ynez. The decedent is 37-year-old Jose Guido of Santa Barbara. Next of kin has been notified.
Sheriff’s detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow. Additional information regarding the incident will be released when it becomes available.
The Sheriff’s Forensics Unit is processing the scene and the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division is conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office is conducting a death investigation to determine an official cause and manner of death.
The identity of the decedent will be released once next of kin have been notified. The identity of the Chumash Security Investigator involved in the shooting is not being released at this time due to the active investigation. We will provide an update as soon as we are able to release more information.

One person has died after a shooting at the Chumash Casino and Resort in Santa Ynez early Tuesday morning.
Around 2:15 a.m., an altercation began between a casino security guard and another male, it's uncertain whether this person was a guest at the resort or a patron of the casino. The security guard shot the man who reportedly died at the scene. No further details surrounding the incident were immediately available.
The identity of the deceased and the security guard have not been released.
The Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting.
