City firefighters are on the scene of a hydrant that has sheared off with water flowing everywhere at Chapala & Arrellaga.
Believe it was a hit & run
Public works requested
Definitely Old Faithful out here. The police and fire trucks were at this corner yesterday for accident. Thank goodness a stop light got approved to go in.
Driver was on scene and in custody
Agree, SBISOK. To the Carpinteria based "Cars are essential " group that sent out the flyer about how the upcoming traffic control changes to this intersection and this stretch of Chapala are a bad thing, come sit on this geyser and get you a good truth enema.
What changes will be happening? Please say they’re putting in a traffic light!
City council voted 5-0 in August to re-stripe Chapala as a one-lane street between Arrellaga and Mission and to install traffic lights at Arrellaga/Chapala.
Those changes will be really effective in keeping the UI drivers from jumping the curb and running over fire hydrants.
I laughed out loud! Well said, Yep!
Is the driver of the vehicle charged for the water as I was when I had a break in my irrigation system?
Plus destroys any of the conservation efforts that anyone is trying to do. I have never heard that they have made anyone pay for the water, even if they know who hit the hydrant.
Oh, dayum, that is one good question!
At least the city replaced the bolts on all hydrants with drilled out bolts (bored out down the center). This allows the bolts to shear without damaging the the hydrant flange or supply pipe flange, and so repairs take minutes not days or weeks.
