Does anyone have insight into how high the local gas prices are going to go? I haven't been driving much in the past 6 months but the prices seem to have jumped up recently. Curious if they'll keep getting higher.

Hard to see how they can go very high with demand being low. But the oil companies will figure out how to max their profits.

They say about 50 cents / gallon. Due to crude oil up, market up and Covid down.

wow people... gas prices ALWAYS go up in the beginning of spring and beginning of winter when they switch blends in California. It's been this way for decades....this is just like how most of you forget things past 5 to 7 years. Like our weather patterns and El Nino. We have no drought...it's part of a cycle. But most of yall drink the koolaid when the city officials call it a drought in order to raise the water rates up. Then when that cycle is over, do they lower the prices back down? nope. they use verbiage to generate fear and worry amoung the populace, thus increasing our water rates, because people forget it's a cycle and not a real drought. Same thing with the gas prices....twice a year every year and twice a year, every year i hear or read this sort of thing from someone....

Zerohawk is correct but is too kind. The refinery situation in CA allows this because there are only a couple. In addition to reformulating the fuel they will also have "maintenance" and almost annually a fire or other breakdown. In the past the Spring Break/Easter Vacation moment was always a profit center. Price will go down a bit until summer vacation travel rises. These companies have a stranglehold on CA in particular. On top of it the refineries are among the properties that have benefited most from Prop 13. Huge million dollar lots and facilities still paying decades old rates (with a statutory minimum increase). If Prob 13 was supposed to help ordinary folks no one told Standard Oil.

It's not just the oil companies but the national gas tax likely will be increased, including here in California where we already have the highest prices. Not least, there's a push for all of us to buy electric vehicles, even though most of us are priced out of that market, with a limited number of charging stations.

The "canceling" of the XL pipeline was a stunt that the oil companies lobbied for. That pipeline is going nowhere. By putting it on pause, guess who now has an excuse to raise prices? Why? Because industry suffered it's worst profitable year in history. What do you do when there's a glut of oil? You cut off supply, increase prices and tell everyone it's "Green". Enjoy.

Haskels hits the truth nail on the head again. You’re on a roll today.
I can’t believe you all haven’t noticed gas has been slowly going up since Jan 21st. Some of us just stick the card in without looking. Some of us have to check the price. It was not just because of a storm in Texas. Higher gas prices were inevitable with a progressive administration, what did you expect? Free? Hahaha!

What a stupid question. They will go as high as the oil companies want and the market will tolerate. Who can predict the future?

Electric vehicles can be fueled for $1.50/gallon, just saying. For those that think electric vehicles are too expensive, there are some great programs - if you make under $104,000 for a family of four you could lease one for free - CEC has some good info https://www.electricdrive805.org/free-ev/ and read a blog of a guy who leased one and made money https://clean-coalition.org/news/getting-paid-to-go-green/

I love my EV. You can find older models for <10k and even <5k with relatively low mileage. As a second vehicle for around town it costs me almost nothing to operate and saves wear and tear on the family car. SB is a great EV area because you don't need much range to get around. If your commute is <20 miles (like many in SB) you will find that 90% of more of your driving can easily be done with a cheap used EV. I realized I don't even need a fast charger at home. I just remember to plug in at night (like your cell phone) and you're good to go for the next day.
