The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) reports 32 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.

One previously identified case has been removed making the grand total 9,164. Of those, 170 are currently active.

There are 21 people hospitalized including five in the intensive care unit (ICU).

California officials announced Tuesday afternoon that Santa Barbara County can now move down to the lower red-tier due to decreasing cases and test positivity.

So they’re still holding off on announcing those 12 cases in IV? Why?

Time to reopen (with SD). We are so beyond flattening the curve. I have doctor friends who say it’s time to reopen that the ICU is down to low single digits. What’s the plan? Hope not to stay this hobbled and home from school until there are hospitalized because we’re getting close. Anyone in the hospital has comorbidities- severely obese, uncontrolled diabetes. They should shelter on place for sure.

Depends on what school you are talking about. Some schools are open with a waiver. If our numbers stay where they are, other elementary and junior high/high schools CAN open, officially, October 13. Most schools in SB district are already opening with small cohorts. This is difficult because: staffing and space needs. Next up will be hybrid. Small cohorts are useful because you get time to "test out" cleanliness, social distancing, regular testing and contact tracing, plus establishment of cohorts - before you open up to hybrid.

I hear that UCSB has some classes that are hybrid in person/ remote already.

IV has dodged the bullet thus far. Expect cases to spike as students return to live out their lease. Students should be allowed to break their lease with no consequence, in IV. The greedy, blood sucking slumlords deserve nothing.

Why stop with rent?? Those blood sucking landlords should have their properties seized and they should all be rounded up! How dare people own something and rent it out to other people!!

I have Dr. friends, too. Only two people in the hospital with Covid. None that are critical care...What will it take to open schools? Is the teachers’ union still calling the shots?
