Well, I can't imagine what rule my last post could've violated, but I'll take another stab at it anyway: Google "daytime flir images" - as anyone with eyes can see, the images are usually black and white, but even when they're in color, the actual colors can NOT be seen - a blue tarp against a blue ocean would NOT hide the heat of the motors! And as to all the drones in the US inventory being required to spot pangas coming from Mexico, exactly which part of "25 square miles in one blink" do you not understand?

I said profits, you said market share. We are both right, because profits aren't market share and market share is not profits. :) And that's true about the Windows laptop, but it also is probably made of plastic and has a terrible build quality unless it's a Samsung which puts it right back up in the same price range. Look up Apple's market share for Q1 2013 - they dropped 18% and their market share is LOWER than Samsung. You may want to re-think the term "Lions Share". I think that Apple does care about Android overtaking the OS platform for smartphones internationally - they would not be business savvy not to take this into consideration. And that's just it - you can get a quality I7 8GB Windows laptop for around $600-700 much lower than the $1,100 quote for a base apple system.

I assume you mean standup paddling (not prone paddleboarding). I recommend Paddle Sports in the harbor. The best thing to bring is playful confidence. Relax, trust your body and natural ability to balance, and have fun! I suggest that you jump in the water right away, then you won't be nervous about falling in (trust me, it helps a lot!). The harbor is good for calm water, but the water is DIRTY, and the back end of the harbor by Brophys is not water you want to fall into. Launching at the beach by the yacht club is cleaner water and much more scenic, just check the weather conditions (in person) at that beach BEFORE you commit to going out. Flexibility for the weather and respect for the ocean are crucial to having a safe, enjoyable time! Choose the widest, longest board you can if you're a beginner, avoid the breaking waves at Leadbetter, ignore the angry anti-paddle surfers who aren't getting any waves, and go paddle with some dolphins! Sorry... I kinda like talking ocean...

Without generating any lawsuits, at least initially, the Association should be notified that the termites (undoubtebly) migrated inside from outside and if it is a condominium the owners of the common area are responsible for damages to the internal individual owners units. The repair to common area clauses in the articles should cover this. If there are not enough funds on hand then the Association should assess each owner an equal amount of the costs, and if necessary provide 24 to 48 hour displacement credit or appropriate reduction in the annual or monthly assessments for maintenance to cover the costs of each owner being displaced during tenting.

Substitute hate the successful for hate the rich and see how stupid it sounds, yet hate the rich has been a local rallying cry for too long. Public education, to which we devote 50% of all our state tax revenues, is the great social leveler in this society providing opportunity for all on equal terms. Take advantage of your time spent in school; stop turning down the opportunities it provides at no cost for anyone. Public schools don't need more money to work. They need students who don't think it is cool to be dumb.

How many people have any idea the amount of money/benefits illegal immigrants recieve in welfare and services even though they are not supposed to get such benefits. Besides healthcare, which all members of illegal immigrant families enjoy via the emergency room, (when was the last time you were in an E.R. to see the walk in traffic?) Then there is the school system which cost $8,000 per year per pupil. Assuming a family of only 3 or 4 children that is $24,000 to $32,000 a year not including free lunches for those that qualify and---by the way-- no one checks to see who qualifies. Just between school and medical service costs, the amount of subsidized benefits are over $50,000 per family. Even if both parents in such a family work and WERE paying taxes, their combined income would have to be around $150,000 to $200,000 a year to cover these kind of tax funded costs. How many families of illegal immigrants do you suppose are making even $150,000 a year?

We got just what we needed....more living space and better closets, etc. Don Gragg listened to what we needed and what we could afford and did an amazing job. If you like your neighborhood...go for it! And, he got all the permits for us and better to do it legally as easier to sell in future. Good luck and hope this helps.

Except they don't force people to purchase products with extra RAM or high end chips. An Intel i5 is not a high end chip. 4gb of RAM is not a lot of RAM. This is for an $1100 laptop which is one of their top sellers. And I don't think Apple cares about where Android sales are when they are still making the lion's share of profit in the industry. More than anyone else in the smartphone industry. Your point about OS X integration into Enterprise networks is solid, but on the flipside most large corporations are adopting iPhones and iPads for their enterprise work so it's kind of a two way street there. Especially as tablets become more and more ubiquitous. Microsoft's future in particular is more of a services company, I feel. See the praise for Azure, their cloud service. Really good stuff.

Was at the harbor years ago when a Great White was brought in - don't think it was this one. Story was that it became tangled in a boat's net and was towed (tail first) from Santa Cruz Island. What happened in the harbor was interesting. While lifting the dead fish out of the water by its tail two things happened: 1. Three seals fell out of the mouth. 2. The tail broke off (the shark pictured here appears to have its tail in tact). After a huge splash and re-lashing to the crane the shark was finally lifted over the pier and lowered towards a flatbed trailer. The first attempt resulted in missing the trailer with the subsequent crash sending a shudder through the pier and, no doubt, all of us gawking. Finally got the shark onto the trailer and some people from the Natural History Museum showed up for examination and measurements. If memory serves it checked in at just about 20 feet and nearly a ton.

Actually the main reason is the inability of the Mac OS to efficiently and readily connect with the infrastructure of the Windows and Linux servers they need to be attached to. And you are correct - Apple is very high priced because they force the consumer to purchase a unit with a lot of ram and a high end Intel chip to make their product seem speedier. I would be worried for Apple seeing that Android smartphone devices have shadowed Apple smartphone sales. If you consider a "Robust" operating system one that can only run on proprietary hardware, isn't easily integrated with Enterprise systems, but has cute little icons - then I guess the Mac OS is a robust OS Apple does love it's Sheeple.....

C'mon people, anytime a company says this is something they can not disclose and that it's an internal matter it means that a really bad situation was happening at the branch. Being an employee of a company that had fraud/embazzlement situations invovled they have to dispcipline everybody that was invovled. Involvment doesn't neccessarily mean they were the ones stealing the money, but also having the potential to know something bad was going on and not reporting it to the proper people. Resources tell me that the entire branch was fired because each individual had 'an idea' something 'fishy' was happening, but no one said anything. Even the upper managment and security could have caught it if they weren't turning their heads out of 'trusting their employees'

It really makes no difference whose friends they are, 'guilt by association' should NOT be a convictable offense. (And again, it's nice to know what the local PD thinks! I.e., that ANYONE who knows or associates with 2 or more people is a "member of a criminal gang" if the police can come up with a sufficiently trumped up charge like "torture".)

795 has it right. Keep a catastrophic insurance plan for accidents along with a Health Saving Plan for out-of-pocket occasional costs, because trauma care is genuine health care and we are good at that in the US. But the medical industry manufactured worried-well boondoggle sucking insatiable amounts of money for no proven benefit is what needs to stop. Ask for proof of efficacy first that you can independently corroborate before you get hustled into this money sucking machine called US health care today. And that also includes stuffing mega billions down the supplement and alternative health scams too.

614P - What do insurance companies do for you? They spread YOUR risk amongst millions of others like you. Example: One million customers each pay an annual premium of $1 to insure against some "risk," let's say an auto accident. Now you get into an accident and your medical costs and auto damage are $2,000. Your insurance company pays the $2,000 bills for you. Not a bad deal for your $1 premium! This example simplifies the situation and ignores deductibles, etc. - but you see the point, correct?

Be very careful. Yes you would rather have work done weekends and on the tradesmen own time taking the price down some. Believe me unless you have been on a job site before you do not want to attempt this yourself. Even the demo will have to be done the way the mason/setters gonna want it. Its not a safe place either. The stuff they breathe is not good! Most expensive in town is NS ceramic, do not hire Brian Placensia (if he hasn't left town) he owes tons of money to setters & home owners, burns everyone!

My closest childhood friend and an avid car enthusiast was killed in a highway accident at the age of 22. A few years ago, my mom - a driver with a multi-decade safe driving record - was in a car accident that severely injured her arm and back, injuries that still trouble her to this day. Some edhatters think we should all drive cars everywhere.

RECOMMENDATION: Least expensive and quality work is an independent handyman with 20-30 year experience in exactly this sort of work. Not only competent but a thoroughly honest and trustworthy good man Call Armando Trujillo at 284-3228. He is a fast, well-experienced working man. Not a plumber. Not a contractor. A nice guy. Be generous My guesstimate: If you prepare things and get whatever permits you need for a do -it-yourself project, it would take him a week. Please be generous and pay him $25 an hour. 40 hours at $25 = $1,000. This is just discussion. No bid intended. Not a contractor either. :-) If you like the work, say that with a little more money and recommendations.

Of course, if ANY part of 101 needs realignment in that area, it would be the S curve north of the tunnels - therefor, it should be obvious that the REAL elephant in the room is runoff into Gaviota creek - this is part of the whole "Stormwater" act and "Steelhead Recovery Plan" - millions will be spent trying to reach unachievable "benchmarks" that even if attained, would have NO measurable effect on "restoring" the "Steelhead (rainbow) trout". The kids learned to street hustle getting donations. That is a good life preparation skill, much like selling Girl Scout cookies. Connecting efforts to reward and consequences if goals not achieved, instead of just demanding handouts is also a good lesson for the real world. Agree, there does seem to be a lot of waste and degradation this time. Roosevelt needs to reign this in, instead of wasting money on a chocolate sundae slide and a buffoon act by their principal.

Really? I don't think so! But who knows, as brainwashed as people are nowadays, a conviction on even the most farcical charge is probably achievable.)

Yes Apple needs Steve. In spite of Siri and the map thing, Apple is still very much alive. Microsoft has had to apologize for almost every iteration of Windows (a Mac wannabe) and usually issued patches rather than true upgrades. Mac OS is very sophisticated and robust. The only reason that it hasn't been embraced in the 'enterprise environment' is that over the years the PC has become dominate due to pricing. As a result the developers have focused on that platform, business decision not a performance decision. Apple has been content with their market share and has managed to alright.

Agree, the urban myth of the underpaid domestic workers needs to be examined more closely because the real exploitation comes from those using this ersatz justification to cram down some other agenda. Most domestic worker indeed are hardworking, fairly paid and end up saving, buying houses and getting their kids into college all in one generation. While domestic slackers lay about demanding other people give them handouts and complain it is too expensive to live here. Time to bust that myth and not dump it on domestic workers, who do make it work.

ORIGINAL POSTER HERE Love EDHAT but sure wish responders would read the original posting carefully and try to answer the original question. :-) What if I don't know even the basics of how to put my accumulation on my new AIR or on a portable drive? I don't know how. Of course it's easy if you already know how! All knowledge is simple and obvious once you know it. I need a kind, knowledgeable helpful, fellow human. I do not need "it's easy, stupid" criticism or unintelligible "computer-speak" advice that I do not understand I asked for someone -- a student or anyone -- who might help me transfer from assorted older desktops to the current new AIR. ====== I see EDHAT as a great public resource for people in need of help like this. I asked if anyone knew someone with the needed knowledge -- and I gave an optimistic budget of $50 or $100 -- hoping that someone -- perhaps some money-needing kid (like I used to be, years ago) -- might be interested to cement his own learning by doing a transfer for me and allowing me to see how it's done so I can learn. Happy Thursday to all.... :-)

I don't hate her or any of the mega-rich new Montecitans (or old Montecitans.) Sure, they create jobs, but most of them are low wage jobs for people living in/creating slums in Santa Barbara, and without health insurance so when sick, as all of us get, need to use the ER, especially if the neighborhood, "neighborhood" being shorthand for lowest income, medical clinics that most of these rich do not support are inadequate. The side effects of increased demands for (Santa Barbara) schools, increased (Santa Barbara) police presence, increased gang activities (in Santa Barbara) are not felt by those same Montecitans.

I know that we pay our cleaning lady pretty well and the other houses that also employ her pay her pretty well. She's smart and lives in Ventura since it has a cheaper cost of living. Oh and her husband, who's a gardener in Montecito, and owns his own gardening business, also gets paid pretty well too.

Not one comment on the amount of $ that we pay to our entertainers in this society? Personally I have never watched her show from beginning to end and maybe have never bought any of the products advertised on it that make her salary possible. She has a bunch of accountants on staff- want to bet that she bought the house as an LLC with only 49% ownership and therefore the purchase is not considered a change in ownership? That's how the LA billionaires avoid paying property taxes on their commercial properties. It's always struck me as ironic that if you don't like what your fed gov does, the best way to withdraw your support is to buy an expensive house and deduct all of the local taxes and mortgage interest you pay. Certainly my bank is not paying their share of their taxes either!

Macs aren't costly, at least their laptops. They are very competitively priced with similar devices from other manufacturers, especially when talking about their High DPI laptops. Light leakage with the iPhone 5 hasn't been a problem in months, the Siri thing is a meme from months ago, same thing with the Google Maps argument seeing as how Apple Maps is perfectly fine for most people and there's about a dozen alternatives if you want them; just like Android! You can call iOS watered down if you want, but at least it doesn't have security holes and malware at every turn like Android does and Apple waited to implement LTE because while the iPhone was still stuck on 3G every Android phone that used 4G/LTE had terrible battery life. If you want to make arguments and start a debate, do it. But don't use memes or facts that were outdated and irrelevant three months ago. It poisons the well.

If you have knowledge of building techniques and materials you can act as your own contractor (owner builder) and then get bids from each of the subcontractors for plumbing, carpentry, masonry and tile work, etc. and any electrical if that is involved. You need to get no less than three FIRM bids from each sub. The only caveat is you must know good versus bad techniques and materials in order to supervise the sub's who may want to cut corners to enhance the profit in their "fixed bid". There are obvious dangers in a time and material bid namely the open ended nature of such a contract. When I had a general contractor build a house for me he was not around in the most important phase, the finish work. Consequently the subs were cutting corners whenever I wasn't around like the painters who did not paint the trim on top of every doorframe in the house. (out of sight out of mind!)

Mac has been trying to be relevant in the business world for two decades - it doesn't happen. The OS can't cut it in an etnerprise environment. Macs are very costly becaue of the processor and the memory that Apple puts in their propietary devices. If you use a PC with a good processor and as much ram - performance is not an issue. Migrating to Windows 8 is rather easy - if you Google it you would see it's just as easy as the mac - there is a utility included with the OS. The iphone 5 now has light leakage at it's seems, apologizes for what Siri can't do, and you about have to use Google Maps - Their same watered down smartphone OS isn't anything fancy and the company apparently just discovered 4G. Apple needed Steve Jobs.....

Check out even the Chumash history of a highly stratified society - privileges by birth on the top, worker bees in the middle, and slackers and losers on the bottom. This is from the official display at the Natural History Museum. What many here are asking for is a pure form of communism - everyone works and everyone shares everything. Except some don't. And the utopian dream fails yet again. Better course is to set realistic goals, work and save carefully, and have a Plan B that is legal.

Slot machines have been described as the cocaine of the poor. 85 percent of the revenue at an Indian casino comes from slot machines and statistical studies have shown that of that 85 percent 35 percent is taken in from gambling addicts who represent 16 percent of the customers (or maybe more because people do not readily admit to gambling addictions) In keeping with this fleecing of the poor the Chumash casino is now packed with penny and nickle slot machines, which of course allow someone to play much more than a penny or two. If you are foolish enought to believe you might win something meaningful, you have to play much more than a few penny's but the psychology is fascinating. By changing these unregulated and unpoliced machines to penny and nickle slot machines these players do not realize just how much money they are still losing.

A consideration not mentioned by previous postings is that if you go with a 'slip-in' re-bath type unit that goes over the existing tub/shower, you have just covered up all the mold and dry rot and not addressed it being inside your walls and flooring. It will continue to grow and continue to contaminate your home, you just will not see it as easily. Second point, a licensed general contractor can, by law, do electrical and plumbing on any job in which he is doing other elements. Not just the electrical or the plumbing. The 'going' rate for electrical and/or plumbing contractors is ~$80/hr. Most general contractors who work their jobs charge less than that and do all functions of the work. GET LOCAL PERSONAL REFERENCES, and check them. You'll be happier, get a better job.

Those on trial if found guilty should be sentenced to the fullest extent of the law! Put some teeth in our system where criminals are punished for their crimes. No gang injunction necessary if they are in prison. No early releases for those whose crimes were committed in the benefit of a gang! S.B. usually is harsh in their sentencing of these types of crime, hopefully the state keeps them locked up and away from innocents.

Free advice. Common sense public health education remains the best health care: The Framingham Heart Study, along with other important large studies, e.g., the Seven Countries Study, Nurses' Health Study, Women's Health Initiative, also showed the importance of healthy diet, not being overweight or obese, and regular exercise in maintaining good health, and that there are differences in cardiovascular risk between men and women.[8][9] It also confirmed that cigarette smoking is a highly significant factor in the development of heart disease, leading to angina pectoris, myocardial infarction (MI), and coronary death, along with other important studies about smoking, e.g., the British Doctors Study.[10][11]

Adding to a House |

Lots of complicated issues which you can see from these comments. Would a larger house fit on the lot? Would it fit into the neighborhood? If you own the nicest house on the block you won't likely get the investment back dollar for dollar because of the lesser size and quality of the neighborhood. Remodels can always be a problem too where major contstuction is involved because you can run into many unexpected problems often increasing the cost where it is not cost effective. Such a large remodel could trigger requirements that many things, which were "grandfathered in" and are no longer legal, will have to be brought up to code, etc. Then there is the permit process and government agencies sometimes act like a referral to the welfare and social security system for a host of professionals who then charge a small fortune for ther plans or advice.

Correction: $26,000,000 x .01% = $260,000 per year property taxes. Only funds two county bureaucrats, not five. Degeneres sale brings in a quarter million a year in property taxes. (Not all new money - depends upon prior taxes and/or any tax tricks used in the sales process)

El Paseo was a shameful tragedy. I remember those delightful little shops and sunny days lunching in the patio. I recall The English Shop, the linen shop and it's always friendly proprietor, Tecolate, La Tortuga and of course the fabulous restaurant. Too many years - 50 - to remember every good thing. I wish this bi-lingual thing had never started. I have friends from foreign countries, struggling to speak our language thoroughly puzzled by this unusual practise. I heard it was encouraged by local well to do philantropists, do gooders eager to employ the cheap labour of maids and gardeners.

Why should Montecitans pay a surcharge to SB to house, feed and care for Montecito's "servants"? Let them take care of this workforce them selves and use their estate's gardeners and maids quarters which were originally built exactly for that purpose. SB needs to stop making Montecito's issues, their responsibility. SB needs to enforce occupancy limits in their city limits rentals for a start. Let the low-income clinics shut down. Put in the gang injunction, if in fact it is these Montecito estate worker parents who are letting their kids run wild "while they work two jobs" to make a better life for their children. (Huh?) Close down the illegal labor line within the city limits and let Montecito put one in themselves. SB has created 99% of their own problems while letting their more affluent and capable neighbors trash us while throwing a few pennies our way left over from gala fund-raising events that try to show they care. SB needs to stop enabling these excesses that are not their responsibility. We became a low-income bedroom community in the process. Why did we do this to ourselves? Time to undo as much of this past damage as possible. Change directions SB, and become your own person again before it is entirely lost.

It probably depends how old your old Mac is, but when I recently got my new Mac laptop all I had to do was set the two machines next to each other and follow the dialogue boxes for uploading the contents of the old machine to my new laptop. In my case it took almost 16 hours, overnight, because I had a lot of photos and video on the old machine. There are no wires involved. I'm told it's a secure Bluetooth connection and flat out magical. It includes all your applications, everything. You can then synch it all up between your machines with iCloud. This seamlessness is the great strength of the Apple system and why so many creatives use them.

FYI, note that an extensive remodel like a tub/shower replacement DOES typically require permits and inspections, even if many otherwise scrupulous contractors get away without them. There are exceptions to the requirment for a permit. It varies county by county, city by city, but in SB or Goleta its a definite requirment, so if you skip the permits, don't get caught - i.e. no roll away dumpsters in the driveway, no piles of building materials on the lawn, and no snoopy neighbors. If you get caught in the act, you get hit with a stop work order and then you can be in limbo for months, plus there can be fines to pay.

On RV reform: 596P: People who have family friends and work here are not going to move to the central valley. The RV Parking program is supported by private donations as much as it is by taxes, and it is a much less expensive to the taxpayer to tolerate an RV than it is to build more public housing. People ARE living in curbside tents- just look closely into the trees & shrubs of any freeway on ramp or off ramp. San Diego, Ventura and San Louis Obispo also have RV parking programs. Senior housing is not available to people in their 50's, and public housing has waiting lists years long and will always choose a single mom over a partially disabled 50 yr. old. 596p, try to focus you anger on actual trouble makers and exclude those that just need a place to park and want to be left alone.

Propane Conversion |
2013-05-23 08:26 AM |

Each appliance will need new gas orifices and possibly also need new pilot lights, adjustment of air shutters, replacement of flames spreaders (smog control device fitted to many newer appliances), readjustment of pressure regulators, and inspection. A safe and competant conversion of a whole house will also include inspection and leak testing of the entire gas piping network, inspection and possible replacement of valves, elimination of any gas unions from the system (including those in exposed outdoor locations which are safe and legal for natural gas but not for propane), potential replacement of gas flex connectors. Setback and access requirements for tanks and piping also need to be considered. Sounds pretty bad, but usually it is not more than an hour per appliance plus a few days for the system. Propane can generate more soot than NG. Consider going all electric and doing some solar.

Always beautiful and popular Montecito has grown, as has Santa Barbara. There have always been jobs for people in Montecito, for decades, that goes without saying. But Old Montecito is no more and it is time old Montecitians realise this. They need to share the paradise they have enjoyed instead of trying to cling onto the past. I miss the "village" feel and the quiet gas blower free mornings - alas - no more. Sadly those soft sun kissed lanes are busy with trucks and black SUVs, challenging that dreamy early morning wild flower meandering dog walk.

How many of these folks have cars and big TV's and other luxury items but dont pay for health insurance? I'd say most... The root of this is illegal immigration and the culture of vultures... take as much from your host as possible without giving anything back. With that being said: Fund them. They do good things but we really need to get people to start taking responsibility for their own lives, lifestyle and well being. And the only way to do that is to make people pay... make them pay.

Your extreme views are why many RV'ers have given up on reasonable RV regulation and are focusing on lawsuits that reverse all regulation. "Accidentally caught" in a miles long fishing net seems to be a contradiction in terms. That method of "fishing" should be outlawed. The incidental by-catch of ocean life that is decimated by those nets is offensive. The oceans belong to all of us not just to the commercial fisherman who routinely take all that they can without any way of replenishing those stocks.

Still don't see how you can run a deficit of $200K / mo. Maybe they will have to stop seeing uninsured patients for a while? Send them all to the Cottage Emergency room and I bet Cottage will quickly find some money to fund the neighborhood clinics. How about the City taking some money out of the affordable home program to fund the clinics? How much do they give already?

Health care may not be a right, 612, but on the same token it is not a right to have a healthy city. However, it is to all our benefits if those with whom we share public space, sidewalks, movie theaters, grocery stores, other stores, have access to affordable medical care. The most cost effective for sick people is not the ER, but health clinics where, yes, staff are reasonably paid. I hope money is found to keep these important clinics functioning. ( 411616P)

The tax money was coming here anyway (and, agree, 653P do better the math) - the house was probably recently sold and then resold. (If, however, it was long in someone's hands, then, yes, there will be an increase in property tax revenues.) 677: Montecito is not the "city". Santa Barbara County did fine before the escalation of Montecito into the LA heaven that it is now. In fact, it did better without all the demands there now are on county services --- and without all the additional demands for the low income paying servant-type jobs, expecting Santa Barbara to provide that housing. Yes, there always were such jobs but not to the extent now. Montecitans should pay a surcharge on their property taxes to go to the City of Santa Barbara low income housing fund, as well as a subsidy to the Neighborhood Clinics for all those workers.

The plumbing inside your house remains exactly as is. Otherwise the only change is that every gas appliance needs a new gas orifice (small part w/ tiny hole for gas to reach burner) as propane has higher energy content (smaller hole). You do need large setbacks and access to a large propane tank for refilling. LP IS pricey; you may pay for that new natural gas line several times....

No tax money for police, firemen, hospitals and libraries; the latter where no doubt a legion of ingrates, equally lacking in grey matter, can waste hours mindlessly bashing out rubbish like this on the free computers. Provided with and clearly squandered by the taxpayers hard earned money and generous private donors. Bah humbug!

Propane Conversion |
2013-05-23 06:57 AM |

-I like and recommend Amerigas or Delta. Have used them both over the years and they are both attentive and competitive propane gas suppliers. -Cost is about $2.50-4.00/ gallon and for an average size house (1500sq.ft. 4 people , 2bth....etc) it will consume avg. 40gal/mth in winter and 15gal/mth in summer. In other words about $50-120/mth depending on season. -conversion of existing Nat.Gas appliances is easy (just requires a valve kit offered or sold on almost all gas appliances. Propane is significantly cleaner burning and has a much higher energy output than gasoline or even natural gas. Keep that in mind as you apply it. Good luck with your conversion, it works fine, don't know what all these people are talking about, it's simple and easy. The good folks at Amerigas or Delta will help you.

Pittosporum napaulense (Golden Fragrance) - A large upright shrub or small tree from India, Bhutan and Nepal. Variable to 18-20 feet feet tall with glossy 3-8 inch long leathery lanceolate leaves that are clustered at the branch tips. In the late spring and early summer emerge the sweetly scented 1/4 inch wide pale yellow flowers in 3 inch wide panicles. There is some speculation that plants so named in cultivation are really P. floribunda from the same geographical area although this latter plant has greenish-yellow flowers. First collected by the famed plant explorer Ernest "Chinese" Wilson between 1907-1910 for planting at the Arnold Arboretum. This description of this plant is based on our research and our observations of it growing at the nursery, in our own garden and in other gardens. We always appreciate receiving feedback of any kind from those who have any additional information about this plant, particularly if they disagree with what we have written or have additional cultural tips that would aid others growing Pittosporum napaulense .

Sewage Leak |

The Cruise Ships that dock off our shore dump how much sewage? The tourists who visit our town from the ships often carry the norovirus, which causes diarrhea, that is found many times over the normal limit on cruise ships. I have yet to see anyone bitch about that.

How nice. Perhaps Dr. Jackman can explain on the El Paseo tour how the "Trust" for Historic Preservation gave up ownership of the treasured El Paseo and allowed it to morph into an office complex. What a loss for the community!

Apple's "Migration Assistant" is a part of all their OS's. You may need to daisy-chain the migration from one Mac to the next until you arrive at the new Macbook Air. The PC's will be a different story depending on the application software that was used on the PC's. The last I knew, the Apple Store was not doing this for free, but perhaps part of their $99 One-to-One offering.

I'd rather they replace that extremely narrow two-lane bridge on the southbound side a few miles south of Gaviota Pass. That one is harrowing, especially if there's a cyclist in the right lane.

I think a heck of a lot more people could and should ride bikes everywhere. There would be less fat people and more happy people.

As disgusting as the trophy cabbage I saw hanging in the scale at last Saturdays farmer market, head severed from its roots. At least no one mounted it and took photos.

Adding to a House |

Worked out great when we added on but that was over ten years ago. Permits were simple, but only because our architect knew how to navigate the process, and he didn't cost an arm and a leg. Brian Pollard. Consider lining up a builder before you design, can be invaluable in designing the most cost effective architecture. Will you live in during construction? How will this impact builder? Now is time to upgrade as much of existing infrastructure as necessary, such as new electric panel, sewer, gas line. Hire someone with long term local experience. A wave of builders appeared attendent to the housing boom and post-fires construction that seem less concerned about their clients. Be sure your architect/designer/builder is familiar with city's Single Family Residential design guidelines and review board.

A friend of mine, competent cyclist, was struck by a truck and died in October. This expert cyclist had a bike accident resulting in broken kneecap. Some edhatters think we should all ride bikes every where.
