Amazon has announced the latest layoffs that will directly affect workers in Ventura County as the company moves forward with a large-scale restructuring.
The layoffs will also impact employees across California, as Amazon has announced plans to eliminate approximately 16,000 roles across the U.S. as part of its corporate restructuring, the company announced on January 28, 2026.
These layoffs have been taking place since October 2025, affecting tens of thousands of workers.
In Ventura, the layoffs are tied to the planned closure of an Amazon facility in Moorpark. According to a filing submitted to the state of California, the company will shut down its location at 742 Los Angeles Avenue, cutting approximately 139 jobs in Ventura County, Pacific Coast Business Times reported.
The layoff will be completed by April 28, 2026, while the operations are expected to end by March 13, 2026.
This filing was made under the state’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, which requires companies to provide advance notice when laying off employees or closing an entire site.
In addition to the Moorpark location, Amazon will also close multiple other facilities across Southern California.
Since October, Amazon has reduced its workforce by approximately 30,000, nearly 10% of its corporate employees, according to Reuters. Teams affected include those working in Amazon Web Services, Alexa, Prime Video, devices, advertising, and logistics.
At the same time, Amazon is also shutting down its remaining Amazon Fresh grocery stores and Go markets and ending its Amazon One payment system.
Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology at Amazon, said that the layoffs are intended to reduce bureaucracy, streamline operations, and strengthen efficiency as technology now plays a larger role in the business.
The company has said that it will now increase the use of artificial intelligence and automation as part of its long-term strategy.
In a message to employees, Amazon acknowledged the difficulty of the changes and outlined steps being taken to support affected workers. The company said it is providing extended notice periods beyond what is required by law, along with opportunities for employees to seek new roles internally.
For those who do not transition to another position, Amazon said it will offer severance pay, continued health benefits where applicable, and access to transition and outplacement services. The company also maintained that it will continue hiring in areas it considers critical to its future.

The AI replacement of humans at Amazon has begun….
Thanks Republican Jeff Bezos. And thank the GOP for zero AI regulation.
