The Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hit and run vehicle accident that resulted in the injury of a pedestrian.

On March 4, 2026, an adult female was driving her vehicle through the parking lot of a shopping center near the Ralphs grocery store, located in the 1500 block of Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks, when the victim was walking through the parking lot. The suspect drove her vehicle directly behind the victim as the victim proceeded through the parking lane, at which time, the suspect vehicle accelerated forward and struck the victim.  The suspect then drove and left the immediate area.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and was immediately taken into emergency surgery due to the critical nature of those injuries.

The suspect subsequently returned to the location, where she was detained by responding Traffic Unit Investigators.  Following the initial on-scene investigation and review of available video evidence, Traffic Investigators determined the incident may involve criminal conduct and contacted East County Major Crimes Detectives. Detectives responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the criminal investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing.  Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have additional information is encouraged to contact Detective Sergeant Sean Taylor at (805) 494-8218.

Drivers’ safety is essential for protecting lives on the road. Responsible drivers stay focused, obey traffic laws, and always remain aware of their surroundings. Simple actions such as wearing a seatbelt, following speed limits, and avoiding distractions like texting can significantly reduce the risk of accidents. In addition, practicing defensive driving, anticipating the actions of other drivers and reacting calmly to unexpected situations—helps prevent collisions. By making safe choices behind the wheel, drivers contribute to safer roads for themselves, their passengers, and everyone in their community.
