The Rochers at the Ranch House, a fine dining restaurant and event venue in Ojai, has announced it has permanently closed after approximately five months of operation, according to a message posted on the restaurant’s website.
The restaurant operated at 102 Besant Road in Ojai, set within a roughly 15,000-square-foot garden property historically known as The Ranch House.
According to the announcement, the owners said they faced challenges continuing operations at the level they believed the space required. As a family-run business, they said maintaining the standards, care, and intention central to the dining experience would have required more than they could responsibly commit.
In the message, the owners said the decision was made “with heavy hearts,” adding that it had been an honor to be part of guests’ gatherings and celebrations. They also expressed gratitude to diners, writers, and publications that supported the restaurant.
The owners also thanked their staff for the care and dedication they brought to the restaurant during its short run.
In addition to its fine dining service, the restaurant offered tasting menus and hosted private and event-focused dining, including intimate gatherings and weddings.
The owners said they hope to welcome guests again in a new setting at a future time.
The Rochers at the Ranch House opened in July 2025, according to an Instagram post announcing the launch.

The Ranch House has a long history in Ojai, dating back to the late 1940s when Alan and Helen Hooker opened a vegetarian boarding home on the property. As the boarding home grew in popularity, the Hookers obtained a restaurant license in 1950, formally establishing The Ranch House, according to the restaurant’s website.
Over time, the restaurant evolved and expanded its menu, eventually introducing wine service and developing a nationally recognized wine program. The Ranch House became a well-known gathering place in Ojai for artists, locals, and visitors seeking a dining experience beyond a traditional meal.

The property welcomed generations of diners, earning a reputation for both its food and atmosphere, with outdoor dining beneath wisteria and mature trees becoming a defining feature.
Chef Perfecte Rocher and his wife, Alia Rocher, took over operations at the property in recent years, with the stated goal of honoring its legacy.

Before coming to Ojai, the couple built the award-winning restaurant Tarsan i Jane in Seattle.
At The Ranch House, Perfecte Rocher oversaw the kitchen with an emphasis on garden-grown ingredients, while Alia Rocher focused on the guest experience, together shaping the restaurant’s identity.
