The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced that Miguel De Jesus Marquez (DOB 07/20/00), of Oxnard, pled guilty on May 4, 2026, to one felony count of luring, for his conduct while communicating with a minor on social media.
In August 2024, Marquez was employed by the Oxnard School District as a para-educator or classroom helper assisting teachers, when he began communicating with a minor from one of the schools where he worked. Marquez and the minor also knew each other through a familial relationship. Marquez began communicating with the 15-year-old victim over text messages and through social media. The messages became sexual in nature and eventually Marquez began sending nude photos of himself through Snapchat. He also asked the victim to share images of herself.
The case was referred to the Oxnard Police Department through a report from Children and Family Services and Marquez was arrested on June 4, 2025.
Deputy District Attorney Morgan Luna, a member of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Sexual Assault Unit, prosecuted the case.
“This case is a stark reminder that social media can be used to exploit and manipulate minors,” Ms. Luna said. “Parents and guardians need to stay actively involved in their children’s online lives, know who they’re communicating with, monitor their apps, and have ongoing conversations about online safety.”
Marquez is scheduled to be sentenced on June 10, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 12 of the Ventura County Superior Court. He remains out of custody on his own recognizance and faces one year in Ventura County Jail plus probation.
