A Ventura man is in custody after he was driving recklessly with a female passenger late Sunday afternoon. During the pursuit, the motorcyclist reached speeds of 90 mph on the east-end of Ventura and drove on a pedestrian only bridge that spans across the 126 freeway.
Colin Patrick Fitzgerald was ultimately arrested after the pursuit was canceled out of fear for his female passenger. Officers monitoring the area observed the female dismount the motorcycle in a shopping center parking lot. When officers contacted her, Fitsgerald returned to the area and was arrested.
“Driving recklessly on city streets puts the public at risk. We want everyone to be safe, especially during the holidays,” said Commander Mike Brown.
It is believed that Fitzgerald may be involved in two other recent police pursuits in the city of Ventura. If this is confirmed, Fitzgerald could face additional felony evading charges. The officer originally attempted to stop Fitzgerald for not having a license plate on his motorcycle. The female was not harmed in this incident.
The Ventura Police Department is committed to keeping our roadways and the public safe. If you have any additional information, please contact the Watch Commander at 805-339-4416.
