On May 5th, 2026, four suspects were arrested for their involvement in an organized residential burglary which occurred in the city of Thousand Oaks.  Detectives are working closely with neighboring law enforcement agencies and anticipate the identification of additional victims.

On the above date, the victims were away from their home when a residential burglary occurred at the location.  Shortly after the crime occurred, one of the victims returned home when they discovered their home had been ransacked and numerous items had been stolen from inside, with a combined value in excess of $100,000.00.

Detectives with the East County Investigations Bureau and numerous patrol resources from Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the immediate and surrounding areas to assist in the search for the suspects.  During which, CHP patrol officers located one of the suspect vehicles in the Calabasas area and attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle.  The vehicle failed to yield, and a brief pursuit was initiated by CHP officers.

The pursuit concluded a short distance away with three suspects fleeing the vehicle on foot.  After an extensive search of the area all three suspects were located and arrested.

During that time, investigators learned of a second suspect vehicle involved in the burglary which had continued south into the greater Los Angeles area.  Through shared information between law enforcement agencies, patrol officers with the LAPD located the second suspect vehicle and arrested Sergio Alejandro Paez Cuervo for his involvement in the burglary.

As a result of the investigation and coordinated effort between the neighboring law enforcement agencies, Javier Ricardo Pulido Ramirez, Diego Fernandez Paipilla Cuervo, Sergio Alejandro Paez Cuervo, and Jesus Miguel Velez Hernandez were arrested by East County Investigations Detectives for the charges of 459PC – Residential Burglary and 182(a)(1)PC – Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, with bail set at $500,000.00 each.

A search of the suspect vehicles yielded the victim’s property and additional evidence further linking the suspects to the burglary in Thousand Oaks.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to safeguarding our communities and also works closely with our neighboring agencies in doing so. As a reminder, residential burglars tend to target unoccupied residences, often those which back up to open spaces such as hiking trails and golf courses. The Sheriff’s Office offers the following suggestions to deter our communities from being targeted:

  • Leave indoor lights and/or televisions on during the evening hours to give the appearance the house is occupied.
  • Close and lock all windows and doors when leaving the house.
  • Activate alarm systems when leaving the house. Even if you only plan on being away for a brief period. Consider having your alarm company list Sheriff’s Dispatch as its first contact on an alarm activation.
  • Alarm systems should consist of door sensors, window sensors and glass break sensors for all windows and doors on the first and second story of the house.
  • Safes have been specifically targeted during these burglaries. Consider storing valuables in safe deposit boxes or other secure locations.
  • Report any suspicious vehicles or individuals immediately by calling Sheriff’s Dispatch at (805) 654-9511. Pay particular attention to vehicles that drive slowly up and down residential streets, and vehicles parked adjacent to hiking trails or golf course access points during hours that are not consistent with hiking or golfing.
