Firefighters rescued a child from a third story structure fire in Oxnard’s Silver Strand beach area on Monday, Feb. 23.
Ventura County Fire Department and Oxnard firefighters rescued a young boy from a burning residential duplex in the beach neighborhood after a garage fire broke out in the 100 block of Santa Paula Avenue.
Dispatchers received a 911 call at 5:42 p.m. and arrived to find a garage on fire while discovering a child inside the burning building.
Firefighters from Oxnard Truck 81 reached the child on the third story, guided him to the second floor, and then helped him down a ladder to safety, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

Firefighter-paramedics and Gold Coast Ambulance personnel evaluated the child at the scene. Out of an abundance of caution, he was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
No additional injuries were immediately reported.
Fire officials said the blaze was knocked down at 6:04 p.m. The cause of the fire was not released.
