More than 40 firefighters from multiple agencies knocked down a working structure fire Thursday, April 16, in the 1400 block of 5th Street, displacing five residents but causing no injuries, according to the Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD).
Crews from VCFD, Oxnard Fire, Federal Fire Ventura County, Port Hueneme Police Department and Gold Coast Ambulance responded to the two-story, single-family residence and arrived to find smoke showing from the second floor.
Initial reports indicated people might be trapped, but all occupants had evacuated before firefighters reached the scene.
Firefighters mounted an aggressive interior attack and confined the blaze to the room of origin while simultaneously conducting a primary search to confirm everyone was out.
The home required extensive overhaul following the knockdown, and five residents were displaced.
No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
VCFD said the incident highlights the value of strong interoperability and close working relationships among regional partners during multi-agency responses.
