The work is likely to affect people traveling between Ventura County and the South Coast during daytime hours.
Caltrans has advised drivers to expect slowdowns and use caution in work zones.
The current work is happening on a busy stretch of Highway 101 that is used by commuters traveling between Ventura County and Santa Barbara.’
Earlier this month, Caltrans had also announced separate daytime closures on Pacific Coast Highway near the Los Angeles-Ventura County line as part of a $1.5 million safety project near Neptune’s Net and County Line Beach.
The department said the project is expected to add a marked crosswalk with pedestrian hybrid beacon signals, along with flashing warning beacons about 800 feet north and south of the crossing to help people cross the highway more safely. Construction is expected to continue through June.
Caltrans has been maintaining and improving the Ventura County corridor, for which it has been investing consistently.
Meanwhile, a $44 million pavement project on the same stretch of Highway 101 was finished in 2024. That work included repaving the road, drainage upgrades, and installing more guardrails.
The area has also been the center of several other major highway projects in recent years. These include Highway 101 widening work between Ventura County and Santa Barbara aimed at improving traffic flow and safety.
