A car crash in Ventura County this week left one person deceased, according to a report on the California Highway Patrol (CHP) traffic information page.
On June 8, at 10:53 p.m., CHP responded to reports of a crash on southbound U.S. 101, which is near the California Street on-ramp.
The crash site was also near the Crown Plaza Hotel.
At 10:55 p.m., a vehicle, identified as an SUV, was found to have veered off the road into an embankment before catching on fire.
Authorities quickly recognized that there was someone possibly trapped in the vehicle on fire, so they called for more assistance.
But around 11:23 p.m., at least one passenger was reported to be deceased, resulting in the CHP closing lanes near the crash scene and calling for the coroner.
The coroner arrived at approximately 12:16 a.m.
Upon arriving, the coroner asked for a fire crew to assist with extraction, or removing the deceased person from their vehicle.
Later, at around 2:19 a.m., the SUV was towed.
As of June 9, no other injuries or fatalities resulting from the crash have been reported.
Additionally, no arrests have been made yet, and no official reports have been released detailing what caused the fatal crash.
