Firefighters have stopped the spread of a half-acre brush fire that broke out Wednesday morning in an unincorporated area near Moorpark, damaging an avocado orchard and prompting the closure of a section of Balcom Canyon Road.

The blaze was reported on the morning of Wednesday, February 4, 2026, near the 5000 block of Balcom Canyon Road.

According to the Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD), the fire impacted a row of eucalyptus trees before spreading into a nearby commercial grove, causing damage to a number of avocado trees.

Approximately 50 firefighters rushed to the scene, with VCFD receiving assistance from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol. Crews successfully halted the fire’s forward progress before any structures were threatened.

Officials confirmed that no structures were damaged and no injuries were reported to firefighters or civilians.

As a result of the emergency response, the California Highway Patrol has issued a full closure of Balcom Canyon Road between the 118 freeway and Stockton Road. The closure is anticipated to continue until at least 12:00 p.m.

Firefighters will remain on the scene throughout the day to conduct extensive mop-up, checking for and extinguishing any remaining hot spots.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
