The longest continuously meeting Toastmasters Club in the world, chartered 1929, entertained a distinguished visit from Deepak Menon, President of Toastmasters International. Menon, who is here from New Delhi, India, attended the 7 a.m. meeting and spoke to the Members on the value of developing self-confidence and leadership skills through the public speaking opportunities the Toastmasters Club provides.

The Club conducted their regular Agenda with several significant Area and District Toastmasters Directors who also participated in the meeting program. It was a rare and welcome honor for the local Toastmasters Club to have the International President participate in awarding member Shane LaFever the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) Certificate. The International Toastmasters organization has more than 352,000 Members in 141 countries throughout the world, and has served over 4 million people since it was founded in 1924 by Ralph C. Smedley in Santa Ana, CA.
Santa Barbara Toastmasters Club 5 has offered public speaking meetings, open to all who are interested, for more than 90 years. The Club meets every Tuesday morning, 7:00 a.m. at the Unity Society Parish Hall, 1535 Santa Barbara Street, Santa Barbara.
