New Public Restrooms Have Opened At Mission Plaza As Construction To Improve The Plaza Continues And The Owners Of Linnaea’s Café Prepare To Launch Slodega At The New Café Kiosk.
New public restrooms at Mission Plaza are now officially open while the City of San Luis Obispo continues other enhancements to the plaza.
The restrooms are open daily from about 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Because safety is a top priority, SLO Police Officers will regularly patrol the area and will provide additional presence during this initial opening period. The City also plans to install new security cameras there next week.
Opening the public restrooms marks a significant project milestone and signals that the Mission Plaza Enhancement Project is nearing completion. While community members can now enjoy the new public restroom, the City will continue building out other enhancements.
Finishing touches are being added to the new café kiosk, patio area, and the historic Murray Adobe. Construction fencing will remain in place as work continues for the next few months.
“This project is the culmination of years of planning and visioning, rooted in the City of San Luis Obispo’s longstanding commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community space,” said Madeline Kascinta, the City’s Assistant Director of Public Works. “Enhancements were formally initiated in 2017, but the project reflects decades of effort to establish the plaza as both a literal and figurative hub of the city.”
SLOdega to Open at Mission Plaza Café Kiosk Later This Year
Food, drinks, and new seating are coming soon to Mission Plaza with the nearly complete café kiosk and patio.
The City has selected the owners of Linnaea’s Café to operate the café as “SLOdega”, set to open later this year.
“We’ve enjoyed developing the menu for SLOdega and can’t wait to create something special at the new café kiosk,” said Rusty Quirk, co-owner of Linnaea’s Café and the soon-to-be SLOdega. “We have a deep love and appreciation for our local community, and we’re committed to providing high-quality food and beverage service at Mission Plaza later this year.”
Mission Plaza serves as a dynamic center for arts, culture, history, and community, embodying San Luis Obispo’s identity and vision for the future.
Aligning with Major City Goals this project builds on its rich legacy by implementing sustainable, inclusive, and innovative improvements that will ensure the plaza continues to thrive as a focal point for public life and activity.
