Check out what we have going on in the upcoming weeks as we continue to make progress on our ongoing neighborhood enhancement projects aimed at making our city safer, more accessible, and better connected.
While exact schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unplanned conditions, the City of San Luis Obispo is committed to keeping the community informed as construction progresses.
Completed Work
We’ve completed the Groundwater Well south of the Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) on the Bob Jones Trail. This work not only enhances the reliability, capacity, and safety of our water and sewer system but it will also expand our local water resources. The City will spend the next decade or more pumping out the groundwater, treating it to remove any contamination to ensure that it meets drinking water standards, and adding it to the City’s drinking water system. This work is being funded by a $7.8 million grant from the California State Water Resources Control Board.

We expect to begin installing a sculpture at the roundabout on Froom Ranch Way and Heirloom Place. Installation is expected to take a few days from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Commuters can expect traffic delays due to intermittent road closures, flagging, and equipment trucks entering and exiting the area. Please drive carefully in this area and watch out for workers in the roundabout.

Work to upgrade and add more safety improvements to key streets and intersections is still underway. We expect to continue work in the areas below.
- Grand Avenue: We’re continuing installing signage and lane dividers (channelizers) between Slack and Abbott Streets. Commuters and pedestrians can expect shoulder closures and sidewalk closures with detours.
- Sacramento Drive: We plan to resume paving work from Industrial Way to Via Esteban. Crews anticipate working on one side of the road at a time. Commuters can expect minor traffic delays due to flagging and lane shifting. Two-way traffic is expected to be maintained throughout the duration of the work. Work is anticipated to take place during standard construction hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the possibility of nightwork to minimize traffic impacts during the day.
- Tank Farm Road: We’re close to wrapping up curb ramp work at Morning Glory Way. Pedestrians can expect sidewalk closures with detours. Commuters can expect traffic impacts due to bike lane closures, lane closures and shifting, and intermittent flagging.
Commuters can expect traffic delays in project areas due to road closures with detours, flagging, lane shifting, and two-way traffic maintained. Work is anticipated to take place during standard construction hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

We are continuing sidewalk and street restoration work as part of the Cultural Arts District Parking Garage. During construction, commuters can expect a closure of Nipomo Street from Dana Street to Higuera Street and Monterey Street from Nipomo Street to Broad Street with detours provided. Work is expected to last a few weeks and is estimated to take place from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. but the road closure is expected to be 24/7.
Please keep an eye out for orange cones and active construction sites and remember to:Allow Extra Travel Time: Due to ongoing construction, it’s a good idea to allow for extra travel time when navigating these areas.
Slow Down for Construction Crews: Remember to reduce your speed and exercise caution when driving through construction zones. Our dedicated crews are working diligently to make San Luis Obispo safer for everyone.
Your support and patience have been invaluable as we work to enhance the transportation options in San Luis Obispo. Thank you!
