April Is Blooming With Opportunities To Give Back And There’s No Better Time To Get Involved!
In April, we’re celebrating Global Volunteer Month and Volunteer Appreciation Week (April 19–25)! It’s our chance to recognize the incredible impact volunteers make every day and to invite even more community members to get out and get involved.
Whether you’re planting roots, cleaning up, or lending a helping hand, there’s a place for you to make a difference right here in San Luis Obispo.
Thank You, Volunteers
To everyone who gives their time, energy, and heart to our community: thank you. You help make San Luis Obispo a more connected, beautiful, and resilient place for all.
And if you’ve been thinking about volunteering, there’s no better time to start than now. Explore all opportunities and pre-register via Engage SLO: volunteer.slocity.org
Below are some upcoming volunteer opportunities to register for this April.
Join City staff from the Office of Sustainability and Natural Resources and the Volunteer Program for a hands-on opportunity to care for our local natural spaces at Johnson Ranch Open Space. Volunteers will help remove invasive plants to support ongoing habitat restoration on this beautiful landscape. Our staff will begin with a short overview on how to identify and safely remove invasive plant species, then we’ll head out together to make a positive impact on the land. This is great opportunity to get outside, give back, and celebrate Earth Day in community!

Help keep SLO clean, safe, and beautiful this Volunteer Appreciation Month! Join fellow volunteers for a graffiti cleanup led by the SLO Police Department on the morning of April 25. You’ll start with a quick briefing and supplies, then head out in teams to make a visible impact across the city before regrouping. All training and materials are provided, and this opportunity is great for individuals or groups, with community service hours available.

RecycleRight Outreach
You could become a sustainability coach at the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market and help create a cleaner, greener, more sustainable SLO! You’ll guide the public on how to properly sort waste, helping to keep food scraps and other compostable materials out of the landfill, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the City’s Climate Action goals. Respond now to join us on April 23 to be a community advocate for recycling, organics, and waste reduction. |
