Southbound U.S. Highway 101 in Arroyo Grande will see ramp closures starting next week as Caltrans continues a $32 million infrastructure improvement project.

The Grand Avenue on-ramp to southbound U.S. 101 will be fully closed from Sunday, January 11 at 10 p.m. through Monday, January 19 at 6 a.m. The southbound Fairview Avenue off-ramp will also be closed during that time.

According to the City of Arroyo Grande, the closure was originally scheduled to begin January 4 but was postponed due to weather conditions. With improved weather, the work is now set to begin next week.

During the closure, Caltrans advises drivers to use alternate routes. Motorists exiting U.S. 101 can take either the Halcyon Road or Grand Avenue exits to reach Fair Oaks Avenue.

Officials advise motorists to allow extra travel time and plan alternate routes in advance.

The closures are part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades along the Pismo Beach–Nipomo corridor, a key stretch of Highway 101. The $32 million project focuses on improving roadway conditions and long-term safety for motorists and highway crews.

According to Caltrans, the project includes pavement and drainage upgrades, bikeways marked through pavement delineation, and safety improvements designed to protect highway workers during construction.

Other closures in San Luis Obispo County may also affect traffic. The northbound U.S. 101 off-ramp to South Spring Street will be closed from January 9 at 8:01 p.m. until January 10 at 6:01 a.m.

According to Caltrans, the closure is needed for guardrail repair work, and drivers can expect minor delays of about five minutes.

Drivers should expect increased congestion in Arroyo Grande beginning Sunday evening as the weeklong closure gets underway. Motorists are encouraged to check traffic conditions before traveling and allow extra time to reach their destinations.
