On Sunday, June 7, 2026, at approximately 9:48 am, San Luis Obispo Police Department received a report of a man sleeping on a couch in a detached garage in the 1300 block of Stafford Street. The resident observed the man sleeping with items that had been taken from the apartment sometime during the night.
The resident stated the man had awoken and left the property but had found evidence that the man had also consumed food and used the bathroom inside the apartment.
Patrol officers arrived in the area and found the man, later identified as Corey Medina, at the bus stop on the 500 block of California.
Officers approached Medina, instructed him to stand up and turn around and as they began to detain him, Medina began to fight with the officers and attempted to run. Additional officers arrived and assisted with taking Medina into custody.
Medina was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail for the following charges:
PC 459 – Felony first degree burglary
PC 69 – Felony resisting arrest
